The lid has some weight to it, but it is easily lifted off to empty. The black plastic has a matt finish which looks good with the chrome fittings on the lid. My only problem is that the width of the opening is not wide enough to empty a dustpan into. My old Addis Swing bin was wider at the front with a hinge at the back. However, I much prefer the look of this Simplehuman bin. Now I will have to take the whole lid off or empty the dustpan directly into my wheelie bin. The bin is very stable on the floor even when empty. It looks very smart and stylish in my new kitchen. It was delivered sooner than expected.
