It does play in English
This set (the full Rome series) was a LOT cheaper than the normal set because the packaging is printed in Spanish. I was a little worried about that, even though the web page assured me it would play in English. Well, no worries, it really does play in English so it's every bit as good as the standard set. I watched it all the way through, and the discs played flawlessly.

Boring
Boring and uninspired, the plot is plodding, the dialogue is frequently stilted, the frequent attempts at humor fall flat on their faces and none of this is helped along by the idiotic macho posturings of Roman soldiers who are, I guess, supposed to awesome examples of devil-may-care masculinity, (as when one soldier, after being lashed with a bull whip, says, "Are we finished already? I was just starting to have fun!). I could watch no more of this series. Don't waste your money.
