It is made from a mineral oil base, and it specifically says that it is non-toxic, Latex free, and does not contain any animal products. **Q: Can you use printing ink on these without damage to plate** A: I have never used printing ink on my Gel Pate. I use Acrylic paint, chalk paints, Distress Oxide pads from Tim Holtz which you can purchase from Amazon. Some types of paint and colours can slightly stain. Acrylic paint seems to work very well, cheap or expensive. **Q: How many prints from one of these if using acrylic paints?** A: They are designed to pull one unique print. If you use thick paint you may be able to pull a second lighter toned version and possibly even a third very light and patchy but this is more in terms of cleaning the gel press than anything else. Their primary function is to enable you to create one unique print. **Q: It the gelli plate 2 sided? One side patterned and other side plain?** A: No both sides jelly, usually only take one (mono) print at each press, then re-ink and take another print. A second, β€˜ghost’ print can be pulled without adding more ink, with exciting, mixed results. These prints can then be over printed with other colours or designs. So many things you can do.
