V-Line Quick Vault Locking Storage Safe for Guns and Valuables, Mechanical Lock, Steel, Ivory

The case is well made with relatively thick steel and door edges are sandwiched between the outer opening and another frame on the interior. It looks like it would be difficult to pry open and the locking mechanism bolt secures itself to the interior frame. This is a lockable storage case, not a safe, but is much more beefy than the cheaper cases. Seriously, people spend a fortune of a nice firearm and associated accessories, then try to save a buck or two on a cheap gun case. A secure storage solution is one of the most important accessories you can invest in. You don't need lights, lasers, fancy sights or the other stuff, you need to keep it out of innocent hands. I like the mechanical lock. It takes minimal space away from the interior space and doesn't need batteries. I have tried opening my other case to find the batteries dead and had to go find the backup keys. Nothing is perfect, kids could eventually get in through with trial and error. But, they can also find the backup key for electronic locks and there are videos on the internet showing how to defeat many of those locks. Take your kids to the range and teach them proper safety! I like having an out of sight out of mind solution that just disappears behind a picture on the wall. Installation is simple, assuming your framer knows how to work a tape measure. Sixteen inches on center studs will leave 14.5 inches on the inside and this is 14 inches. Some shimming would make a nice fit. My framer only left me 13 7/8 where I wanted to install it, but shaving a little off wasn't too bad. Note, that the knob is not flush, it extends about 1/4" from the plane of the wall. I used a fabric print over a wooden frame (hollow interior) over the case which made a nice finished look.

Sturdy recessed wall locker ideal for keeping a gun away from small children and storing valuables. It is not as impenetrable as a safe, but it meets my requirements. I was surprised on how heavy it is for its size. It is well built, easy to use with responsive mechanical buttons and lock (no batteries required) and it has good quality finishes. It is relatively easy to install. It needs a 12x14 wall opening and the it is bolted to 2x4's inside the wall but you have to make sure the studs are 16" on center. I ended up needing two longer screws on one side of the locker than the 1” long screws provided. It was a little uncomfortable to tighten the screws using a drill due to the limited space inside the box. You should be aware that the knob from the locking mechanism does not end up being perfectly flush with the surface of the wall and it will protrude a little. This issue could bother you if you are trying to hide the locker behind a mirror or painting with a flat back. I didn't install it that way, so it was not a problem for me. Also, make sure you review the interior dimensions of the box, since the available storage space is limited due to the thickness of the wall.

This is a well built locker. As other reviewers have written, it will keep young children out, but could be compromised by a motivated teenager or adult. If you want medium level security but quick reliable access to your handgun, this is a great locker that can be concealed flush in a wall and out of sight. Installation was straightforward between studs. I was lucky to have the studs spaced a fraction wider than necessary, so the lag screws were plenty long enough to anchor into the studs. The felt backing is slit along the line of pre drilled holes for the shelf height adjustment, so it can be separated to find the screw location. Programming the Simplex lock is simple and straightforward. The inside space is very limited and provides very little storage, but is perfect for a handgun, several magazines, and a few boxes of ammunition.

I have two of these to store pistols in the bedroom. They are easy to install with standard 16" spaced studs in the wall. Quite secure with wood screws into the studs from inside the box. Smooth on the outside due to the handle and locking buttons/knob being recessed. You could put a hinged picture over the box to conceal it. The one weakness is the locking unit. The buttons and knob are wobbly and don't engage 100% of the time. Sometimes it takes two tries to push in your combination and turn the knob to open it. Never had any issues getting it opened, just takes a second attempt sometimes. Wouldn't want to rely on this for a life or death fast response situation. That's a different storage unit in the night stand. But to keep handguns locked away from the kids it's perfect.

This is a well-made wall mount safe made from sturdy materials. Very easy to install and it looks good! Functions as stated. The only thing I would suggest is to review the position of the installation holes. On the left side (if facing the vault from the front) the mounting holes are closer to the edge of the stud; the holes on the right are more centered on the stud and the lag bolts will be centered better on the right side than the left. I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing issue or by design. I ended up using slightly longer lag bolts as the ones provided (although adequate) were a little too short for my liking. Overall, I would not hesitate to purchase this safe again.

When properly installed (and hidden) it is an excellent safe. Like any safe given enough time and the proper tools nothing is impenetrable. What I like about this safe is that it fits between the studs in your wall and if you take the time to: a) Mount it in an out of the way place and by that I mean a place you REALLY wouldn't think a safe would be installed. Keep in mind that this safe can be installed almost anywhere where there are 2 studs that are 16 inches apart from each other. I used different mounting bolts to anchor the safe to the studs. I used much heavier bolts than what was supplied with the safe. I recommend you do the same. b) Hide the face of the safe so that there is an excellent chance that it would never be spotted in the first place and that is your best way to ensure it's not tampered with. The safe itself is easy to use and program. There are You tube videos on how to program Simplex locks so I'm not going to describe how to program the lock. That is how I did it. Just be sure you have it programmed correctly before you lock the door because if you lock the door and don't have it programmed correctly you're going to have your hands full. Please keep in mind that this safe is not very deep. It's only as deep as the drywall that is behind the safe so the depth is about 2.25 inches. There are 2 shelves included with the safe, 1 fixed the other adjustable. My gun rests on the one shelf reasonably securely because the one adjustable shelf has a lip on it so nothing slips off the shelf when you open the safe door. My only quibbles are the following: a) There is only ONE sliding pin that locks the door of the safe and I would feel better if there were more than one locking pin to secure the door. My other quibble is that I suppose it's also possible to force the door open with a pry bar since there is a small gap between the door and the safe frame. b) Sometimes I have to clear the Simplex lock because it won't open on the first try. I hope this isn't an issue in an emergency. Even with these quibbles I really like the idea of this safe and that the lock doesn't use batteries or a key in order to open the safe makes it a home run. Highly recommended (so long as suggestions are followed) Update: 6-17-23- As mentioned previously in my review the Simplex lock had been binding periodically and was no longer reliable. I called V-Line and spoke to a very friendly representative who told me that since my safe is out of warranty there wasn't much she could do HOWEVER they did manage to find a replacement unit in their warehouse and sent it out to me via Priority Mail. It literally was at my doorstep the next day! I installed it with the instructions that came with the replacement Simplex lock and now my safe has been operating perfectly. American made quality. I've purchased Fort Knox handgun safes, GunVault and others in the past. The V-Line uses the Simplex lock mechanism and it works like a champ. I loved the simplicity of the lock and the reliability of the no-battery concept. This thing is set up for very easy installation, all hardware included. All I had to do was put a hole in the wall 14" wide X 12" tall. The only thing I didn't like was that after I finished the install, whenever you hit the buttons, the door moves just enough to bounce and make a slight bang noise. I fixed this by cutting a large o-ring up and pushing it into the top and bottom groves to give the door something to close against. Other than that, I think this is one of the best ways I've found to store a handgun safely. I'd definitely recommend this product.

Great Product and seems well built. Installation after your find a suitable place was simple. The instructions to change the lock combo was simple to follow. Even though the unit fits between 16" on center stud walls, not all studs are 16" apart. Although a stud finder is necessary, it does not give you the exact location of the stud. I would recommend the following. Get yourself either a 1/16" drill bit or a small nail. Once you find the general location of the stud, use the drill or nail to find the exact edge of each stud you are going to place the safe between. Then measure the distance between the studs. The first two places I tried the distance was only 13 3/4", a 1/4 too small. This saved me from having to patch a large hole cut in the wall. Also be careful of what is located on the back wall. Two places that I thought would be good were unusable. One had a pocket door behind it, the other had shower pipes.
