I normally wear a size 36 pants, and usually between a 42 and 44 chest size. The large size of this shirt jacket, fits me perfectly. Some might say I have slightly long arms, and the arms of this jacket are perfect for me.Is this item itchy? Of course it is, it is 80% wool. Some people might get confused with Merino wool, or alpaca wool which is extremely soft. But this is neither of those materials, therefore yes it is itchy.I have used thick wool blankets when camping, and they are definitely every bit of what people say they are. Warm, flame retardant, keep warm if wet, and have a bit of smell to them. However, this shirt jacket does not have any odor whatsoever.The craftsmanship of this item is perfect. The buttons are well sewn and the pockets are placed well. The only thing that disappoints me, is today outside it got up to 60 degrees. It has been in the teens and low 30s forever, and now I have this awesome shirt jacket to test...If you are worried about the Itchy part, perhaps one of the other shirt jackets with a higher percent of nylon or polyester would be good for you. And you don't want Merino or alpaca as an outside layer, because it would get shredded by tree branches and things. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Versatile article of clothing *by P***G on Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2015* The Woolrich Stag wool shirt/jacket is most comparable to the Woolrich Buffalo Check wool shirt. The fabric used in each is similar if not identical, and the sizing is close, at least for size XL. Both items have minimal lining, so it would be advisable to wear at least a base layer for maximum comfort. There are, however, several differences between the two items:* The Stag jacket is longer than the Buffalo Check shirt.* The Stag jacket is the same length all around, whereas the Buffalo Check shirt has slightly rounded tails.* The hem of the Stag jacket is formed by folding an inch of material back and sewing it in place, whereas the hem of the Buffalo Check shirt is folded back just enough to accommodate the bottom stitch.* The Stag jacket has yokes on the front and back shoulder that double the thickness of the jacket in those areas, whereas the Buffalo Check shirt has a panel of fabric on the back shoulder only.* The yokes on the Stag jacket are open on the bottom, whereas the panel on the Buffalo Check shirt is sewn all around.* The chest pockets on the Buffalo Check shirt have flaps over the top, whereas the yokes serve the same purpose for the chest pockets on the Stag jacket.* The Stag jacket also has two handwarmer pockets that the Buffalo Check shirt does not have.* The Buffalo Check shirt has a collar lining that seems to be 100% cotton, whereas the Stag jacket has a collar lining that is either full synthetic or cotton/synthetic. The Stag jacket also has the same lining on both sides of the front opening, behind the buttons on the right side and the button holes on the left side.* The buttons on the Stag jacket are substantially larger than the buttons on the Buffalo Check shirt.In short, the Stag jacket and the Buffalo Check shirt are in many ways interchangeable, but the Stag jacket has features that make it more suitable as a top layer, whereas the Buffalo Check shirt can be more easily used as a shirt with another layer worn on top of it.As a shirt, I prefer the feel of 100% wool shirts such as the Woolrich Bering shirt or the Pendleton Board shirt, and it's easier to tuck in the tails of a Bering shirt if you want. Certainly I don't see a difference between the care for the Stag jacket and for 100% wool shirts (machine wash cold with wool-safe detergent, line dry). The feel and heft of the Stag jacket fabric is similar to the feel and heft of my Filson Mackinaw Cruiser jacket, but the Stag jacket is shorter than the Filson and doesn't have all the pockets that the Filson does. I guess that this is a roundabout way of saying that the Stag jacket occupies a niche between a regular shirt and a full-blown wool coat.Whether you go with the Stag jacket or with a 100% wool shirt would come down to usage. If you want a shirt that could be used as a top layer, you might want to go with the Stag jacket with its extra length and its handwarmer pockets. If you just want a shirt, a 100% wool shirt would be nicer. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ which would have been fine except that the yoke covering the upper chest and ... *by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2017* Having read several reviews that suggested the shirt jacket ran much larger in size than described by the size chart, I ordered a small. Unfortunately, it was too small and I had to return it. In my opinion, the chart is correct, at least for that particular size, and I should have ordered a medium. The wool fabric is quite heavy, which would have been fine except that the yoke covering the upper chest and back doubles the layer of material. This would be too hot for a three season jacket in California. In a cold climate, it might be perfect. The coat is a little long but not annoyingly so, and it would keep the derriere warm in winter.
