Is this an actual cover?

No! This is NOT the actual cover. These are roller systems to make removing and using your cover so very easy. I highly recommend this!! It is very affordable and works great!

Do you think you could use it on the opposite of the way the top folds over? So fold cover over and slide to side in stead of straight back?

Depending on where you put the attached brackets depends on which way you can slide the cover. I hope this helps!

Will this work on synthetic wood

My spa is synthetic wood and it works fine. I made a mistake and ordered 2 thinking they were per each and not sold in pairs, so I had 4. I figured the added support would not hurt, so I installed them and they work great.
