I use an APC BackUPS which has several controlled outlets where by power is cut when demand from a master socket drops below a user set level. This is great for powering off all peripherals when the PC is shutdown or suspended.However, with the monitor connected to the igpu (DisplayPort) and powered via one of these controlled outlets, the PC will not boot. It emits 4 quick beeps (AMIBIOS ASRock motherboard). Until now, I had to plug the monitor in to a non-controlled outlet.With one of these dummy adapters in the PC's HDMI port, it boots fine with monitor on displayPort and a controlled power outlet. The one downside, the HDMI (to which this dummy adapter is plugged) becomes the primary display. This is only an inconvenience when you need to get to the BIOS or boot menu. In fact ctrl-alt-del as it boots will allow, the now powered monitor, to assume role of primary display. Other than this, both WIndows 10 and Debian cope fine with an inactive primary display.

Very happy with this. It always annoyed me that I couldn't switch off my PC monitor while streaming games to my tablet (Steam Link, Parsec, etc.). Plugging this thing into one of my video out on the graphics card fools the PC into thinking a monitor is still attached, so now I can turn the monitor off. Happy days.

Wasn't sure how effective this item would be, but has completely fixed all my issues I was having when using the computer on remote access. Would and have, recommend again.

Great idea, ,although many people use it to boot up Bitcoin machines... I use it for my media server which runs Plex and other things, in order to connect to it through a remote desktop tool it needed a monitor. Plugged this in and it now thinks it has a monitor. Great idea, works perfectly.

Ideal for your headless server needs

An xbox one S detects a TV connected. options are 4k @ 60hz or 1080p @120hz. If you choose 1080p it judders when streaming every few seconds, but at 4k there are no issues. I can boot the xbox and stream at high settings (using ethernet both ends).
