Size 5 is a thicker thread than size 8. Hope this helps. **Q: Would this work for tying a quilt? Do the ends unravel after a while? I've never tied a quilt before.** A: I think it'd work well but yes, it will unravel some. You can seal the ends with Fray Check. I've tied one quilt with yarn which I'm not recommending - it's a pain to thread and sew, it unravels, and the knots don't hold particularly well so next time I would try crochet thread or perle cotton. **Q: I received just one ball of thread.. Is this correct? If this is what it is, then the advertisement is confusing. I though it was a box of 10.** A: I didn't buy this red. I bought 1 white. By the way, it never said the quanity...only 87 yards per roll. The picture made you assume it was 10 rolls.
