Underrated Van Damme Movie
Pound Of Flesh.Genre: Action.Certificate:15/R.Running Time 104 Minutes.Synopsis.Deacon is a former black-ops agent who awakes the day before the operation to find he is the latest victim of organ theft. Stitched up, Deacon descends from his opulent hotel in search of his stolen kidney & carves a blood-soaked path through the darkest corners of the city brothels, fight clubs, back-alley black markets, & elite billionaire estates. The clock is ticking for his niece & with each step Deacon loses blood.Timelord Thoughts.'Pound Of Flesh' sees the muscles from Brussels - Jean Claude Van Damme back to what he does best - high kicking, fist punching action, ok so there's a few occasional naff green screen shots during the driving sequences but on the whole this is a testosterone fuelled action flick with a bonkers but entertaining plot that features a nice twist at the movies climax.Jean Claude Van Damme seems to be playing far darker characters of late & Deacon is another one of those characters who has a past full of secrets, Van Damme adds emotional depth to his character somehow making a unlikable character likeable.British actor/stuntman/fight cheographer Darren Shahlavi is on scene stealing form as the villain Drake, but sadly Shahlavi died of a heart fatal heart attack caused by atherosclerosis in January 2015 he was only 42 & this movie is respectively dedicated to him.The direction by Ernie Barbarash is stylishly shot & the fight scenes pack a decent enough punch for a B' movie, the plots sees Deacon (Van Damme) have a one night stand with a women he supposedly saves & wakes up the next morning in a ice bath with one of his kidneys missing which he was donating to his sick niece who is in vital need of a transplant so Deacon frenetically races against the clock with the help of his brother to take down the bad guys & get back his stolen kidney, in order to save his dying niece. The plot is completely far fetched & ludicrous but it's entertaining switch your brain off action hokum & overall this is a solid enough fast paced entertaining thriller, if your a fan of JCVD movies like myself then 'Pound Of Flesh' is definitely worth a watch & is one of the Muscles from Brussels better straight to DVD releases of recent years.A underrated gem.

Van Damme After A Pound of Flesh
Better than average Van Damme film compared to his straight to DVD/Bluray fare that has recently been released. Van Damme stars as Deacon, a former black ops agent who has traveled to the orient to donate a kidney to his dying niece. During a night out on the town he rescues a young woman in distress not knowing he is being setup to lose a kidney to the black market for his troubles. Plenty of action as Van Damme tears through China to find his missing kidney, losing more blood as he goes, whilst trying to re-gain his brothers respect.Audio and video is excellent quality (as you would expect for a new release).I hope this review helped you. it's a bit slow going
“Pound of Flesh” is something of a let down … This is a pity, as I rather enjoy Van Damme films (not just his 'classics' - such as Bloodsport, Death Warrant, AWOL, or Time Cop - but also some of his more recent movies - such as JCVD, Six Bullets and Assassination Games). The basic plot is reasonably acceptable. The logic is similar to ‘Taken’ ... only it's not a person that's been taken, it's Van Dammes' kidney! He wakes up one morning to find one gone. And so he relentlessly hunts down those who've taken it. Fortunately he's ex-special forces, so he can fight the bad guys even though he's only just undergone backstreet surgery. Just to give some 'depth' to the film, it transpires that Van Damme was just about to donate his kidney to a family member ... and if he doesn't find it soon, that person will die.The direction is fine and the production quality is okay (although some scenes were clearly green screen filmed, with the background added-in later). The problem is, it's just a bit slow going. The action needed to take more of a centre stage, and the pace of story development needed to be faster. As it is, there are some sections of the film that are a bit boring. If you've want a reasonably good Van Damme film, and you haven't seen it, go watch ‘Six Bullets’!

Great to see Van Damme getting back to what he ...
Great to see Van Damme getting back to what he does best. Kicking arse. With martial arts. Not all shooty shooty, anyone can do that. I especially liked how he used a Bible. But set in Asia, bad green screen effects spoilt it somewhat. There should have been way more money thrown at this original plotline and some other famous actors, too! Makes me wonder what V-D has done to offend hollywood, cos it seems like they've turned their back on him.

EXCELLENT STORY, EXCELLENT ACTING. I THINK I MIGHT HAVE SAID EXCELLENT!
Make no mistake this is a terrific film covering a subject that I'm sure goes on all too often. (Think Hostel but more for profit than perverse kicks). The story is EXCELLENT and the action even more intense than Van Damage usual. The only downside for me, is that for a film made in 2015, to have no subtitles is downright amateurish. (I'll put that down to an unintentional oversight.) If this was made as a 'straight to DVD' I really don't understand why. The two main characters work very well together and the ending can't fail to affect you, unless you have no feelings at all. x

What happened last night!
I enjoyed this fim starring Jean Claude Van Damme who is relentless in his efforts to track down crooks who stole his kidney after a woman the crooks paid to seduce and drug him. Lots of action, fights and twists, great story with good ending.

Damn good.
This is a silly movie but one I enjoyed. It is perhaps faint praise but it is JCVDs best film in years. Its violent and full of action and just the kind of film you would have got on VHS in the 80s.

JCVD on a mission
I'm a big JcVD fan and this is up there with his best recent DTV releases. I always find most of his films are better than a lot of dross that does hit the cinema screens. Here he wakes up to find someone has sold his kidney. It's no Saw, but what a great motivation to kickstart a revenge thriller.
