Useful even after my college class
I was required to get this for a graphic design class but I actually liked this book and it had a ton of useful information. I would look back to it in the future unlike most textbooks I never use again

Thoughtful
Iโve enjoyed the 2nd edition, and love the thoughtfulness behind the 3rd edition. The studies of the different languages can get too detailed but itโs informative. A good book for class and to have in your design library!

A lot of Typography history
I originally got this book for a class in typography for college and itโs been a pretty good read. Iโm not really a โin depth historyโ kinda person but if you want to learn about type and its origins etc. Itโs the book for you

An essential book for graphic designers and communications people
I have three editions of Luptonโโs essential book and have read them all, and shared the earlier editions with people in the communications and design community. The basic advice and core design principles is the same, but in later editions she adds more examples and typefaces. This should be in the library of every graphic designer.
