For those who have used this ink for a while, does it really empty quickly?

I use this ink all the time. It lasts quite a while. However, when printing several sheets of glossy photos, it does go more quickly.

Can i run the printer with just the black cartridge?

You can change the color to black on printer. But have the have all colors in tray
