What size screws are required to fit to wall?

The size/type of screw will depend on what you are fixing to and what weight you intend to place on the shelves. I used a 4.0mm diameter countersunk screw as this best fitted the rail that holds the bracket. I used a 60mm long screw (fixing into a timber stud) due to the thickness of the rail and a single skin of plasterboard. However, I was only supporting short shelves to hold cds and dvds so the above may have been a bit OTT If your wall is stud and plasterboard (and you can't locate the studs) you will need plasterboard fixings. If your wall is plastered brick or block, the above spec (with rawlplugs) will probably suffice, as long as you don't overload the shelves.

Dr p s sheppard. how much weight have you got placed on your shelves. i'm looking at placing a large microwave on or large kitchen worktop appliance.

Hi I would be reluctant to place anything on these shelves unless the brackets are larger. You would also need to take into account the width of the shelf if you are going to place a microwave or similar on top of it. Don't forget you would need to leave a clear space behind the microwave for the wiring and ventilation for safety reasons. I only use my shelves to display my models so weight isn't really a factor!

Not sure about a guide, but I have used these shelving brackets and supports to hold some pretty weighty articles in my garage without any problems. They are very robust indeed.
