And could I keep it on for 24 hours?** A: I keep homebrew at a temp between 18 and 21° and the controller is about ¾ from 0. There is no temperature indicator so it is trial and error. You need to keep a check on the temperature as it is not thermostatically controlled. I have never needed to increase the temperature above my needs so not sure about 42-44°. I keep the mat on for at least 1 week, I've had no issues. I also use it to prove bread, standing the dough (in a bowl) on the mat for an hour, works a treat. **Q: What's the electricity usage like?** A: It's 25 watts, a 1000 watts an hour costs 35p at at today's rate. You can do the math but it's not a huge cost added to 40 pints of beer. Cheers **Q: will it matter if my 6 gallon bucket overlaps the pad?** A: Hi I used this with a 30 litre standard brewing bucket (that's about 6 gallons) . The bucket was slightly bigger than the pad but the heater kept the temperature at around 22 C. It was turned right down for that temperature (an we have a really cold house!) so no doubt it could go hotter when needed. **Q: How do you know you have it at 20-25c?** A: Simple answer, you look at the thermometer stuck to the side of your bucket. The dial on the heat mat is nonspecific but that is one of the benefits. Ambient temperature and the heat generated by fermentation will have an influence on the temperature within the bucket. If the contents of your is at around 22-24 degrees, setting the heat mat dial at about the 9 o'clock position should keep that temperature, bearing mind the previous sentence. If it cools, turn it up a bit and if it gets hotter, turn it down. Keep checking and you will be able to judge where you position the dial.
