Information Technology for Management: Driving Digital Transformation to Increase Local and Global Performance, Growth and Sustainability

This is a college textbook. The only reason for most people to purchase it is because it was assigned by an instructor. If you can, you may want to reconsider taking the course that assigned this book. I am re-thinking my decision regarding my institution of choice. I am finding my instructor is more of a project manager with little real knowledge of IT systems. I was assigned this text for a graduate studies course and I have years of IT experience with an undergraduate in IT. I can't say that much in this book is objectively false. I have read up to chapter 4 and it is vague, riddled with misnomers, and omits relevant if not critical information. The first two chapters talk about cloud computing as if it will drive value for every business that adopts it. It does not go into any critical analysis, nor does it accurately define what cloud computing is. The third chapter touches on different data storage, retrieval, and organization through SQL, NoSQL, Object oriented and Blockchain. If the reader didn't know any better they would walk away thinking that they are all equally deployed in business. For a book that that talks about management of technology there is no discussion on talent resources, adoption, drawbacks or other considerations. The chapter on networks was really difficult for me to read. There were statements like 5G was the first packet switching network, and reading, "One of the primary uses of a network is for search". It's not that these are "false", but they do not reflect the reality and intent of technology in business. I find it kind of gross that students are being educated with this book.

Paid for the new price and received a book that had noticeable wear. New textbooks do not show this kind of wear
