The CoTCCC only “recommends” tourniquets and has not recommended a new one since 2004. In fact, the latest CAT Gen7 and the SOFT-T Wide have not been reviewed by the CoTCCC, but they have been grandfathered in. This past Thursday, CoTCCC had a meeting to discuss tourniquets but they have pushed the issue out to another unforeseen date. On the positive side, Sam Medical who is the manufacturer of the SAM XT Extremity Tourniquet does have a letter from the Department of Defense that their tourniquet is a licensed stop the bleed product and approved by the Combat Casualty Care Research program. Not certain if this helps but wanted to provide additional info from Sam Medical.
