Beautiful plant, grows fast, but keep it out of bright sun
My plant arrived healthy and once I repotted it, added vitamins/fertilizer, it started pushing out new growth really fast. It’s definitely a strong grower. One thing I learned the hard way is that this plant does not want to sit in bright direct light. I had it in a sunny window and the ends of the leaves started to look a little crispy or papery even though the center was growing like crazy. After moving it to bright indirect light, the new leaves look perfect again. So overall, it came healthy, it’s growing fast, and it’s a really cool-looking plant, just make sure to avoid strong sun or you’ll see some crispy tips. I’d still buy it again.

Undersized and beat up, but coming back
My cryptanthus arrived on the last day of its two week shipping window. It was to be 4-8” in a 4” pot. The longest leaves were badly damaged, it was quite pale, and the plant itself was barely three inches across; it didn’t even come above the edge of the pot. However, as you can see in the photo, it’s perking up with good care. It’s grown in size though it is still too bleached out for a Rubin. I’m not pleased with its condition and undersize arrival, but with some luck, it’ll be just fine over time and attain the color it should be. [Update one week later: I did some research and it’s clear I didn’t receive a rubin cryptanthus. Looking carefully through the web, it looks like dwarf rose-stripe. Which explains why I thought it was bleached out. Actually angry now, as I see I didn’t even receive what I paid for. Second photo with better light — you can see this is NOT a Rubin or ruby cryptanthus.]

Size matters
The description says "4-8 inches," and it does actually just meet the 4 inch mark. But this is most definitely not "jumbo." The pics are very misleading. Looking through the pics of what other customers received, I'm really disappointed with mine. It's a neat little plant, but it's not a $20 plant. Update, 06.18.2025: I'm changing my one star review to four stars. The plant is beautiful, healthy and doing very well.

A very healthy Cryptanthus, but rather small.
I should say first that I worked in horticulture for decades, and I know my way around in it. I have no serious complaints about this Cryptanthus 'Wild Cherry', but that's mostly because I couldn't find any Cryptanthus anywhere before choosing this one. Thirty dollars for a four-inch bromeliad is a bit much, and, also, the seller is a bit misleading in their description of the plant. They claim it's a larger-than-usual Cryptanthus in a "five inch pot". Well, no. It's no larger than any typical Cryptanthus, and it's not a five inch pot. It's a four inch pot, but in the trade, it's very common for pot diameters to be exaggerated. In horticulture, a "four inch" plant is closer to three inches in diameter. Same here. The picture in the description shows a seemingly broad plastic pot with an impressive Cryptanthus in it. That's not what they're selling. You can see in the photos above. It's a very typical "four inch" Cryptanthus. I understand that free shipping on Amazon has to be paid for somehow, so it's fine. I just wanted to let the public know what actually comes in the box. It's very well-grown and vigorous, and it'll be lovely once it grows a bit. It was packaged very well, and arrived with no damage at all.

These actually took longer then expected I think like 8 days but believe it or not they where still alive I could t believe it and wrapped nicely and firm and had plenty of new buds on them as well it's well worth it if they would of came on time would of been 100% perfect . I believe it was on the postal side is the reason shipping was delayed
