In Monster Lab, you are a mad scientist trying to patch together enough of your monstrous creations to collect monster samples. Collect enough and you can create the Formula for World Domination. It's not that complicated.
While it's really not that complicated, the game isn't exactly for kids (too many actions) or adults (theme not very interesting): it hits a gray area. Also the print on the cards is very very small...and really, there's no need to have so many cards (overkill). But you get a lot of game for $10.00. And there are other simplified rules for kids and groups who aren't willing to remember more than a few rules and actions.

Fun but a little complicated
This game is definitely best played with older kids. It requires a fair amount of reading and playing a round or two before everyone catches on to the rules. The game itself is well made. The pictures and monster names are all pretty creative and entertaining.

I've been super excited about this game since I first heard about Liam making it and am So glad it finally came out!!! So much fun!!! Just got ours (and a second box as part of a birthday gift for a friend) the other day! Love it! Love that they have a modified option for playing with kids

Great concept, fast play through, takes up alot of table space for a card game.

Perfect for those rainy days when cooped up inside. Great for family game time to unplug from the isolation of videos.

Core combat mechanic is clunky. Double randomizer of dice and cards seems unnecessary. Dice come off as forced into the game just to have cool custom dice. High cost of engaging in combat, added to the high chance of failure and wasting an entire turn, causes players to prefer to avoid combat completely and just race to 5 samples. The whole thing feels like a great idea published a little too early in development.

Kids Variant is fun main game is a bit complicated
Fun game, however where the kids version excels the main base version of this game seems like it could be optimized better.
