Very easy to use
This is a single use test kit for detecting the presence of Helicobacter pylori. It's straightforward to use and offers a result in 10 minutes. It's a great idea as it could save time waiting for a doctors appointment and offer peace of mind or invaluable information. Good value for money.

Easy Check H Pylori Test Kit
I have various stomach issues (IBS, food allergies), so when I saw this on offer, I thought I’d give it a try to check if there was anything more serious going on. It comes with everything you need. As this is a “poo test” you need to catch a bowel movement before it hits the toilet water, so it comes with a piece of paper you can use to catch it. But you need to position it perfectly, otherwise it’ll miss! Once you have caught your number two, you prod it several times with an enclosed test tube stick. You then shake the test tube, break the tip and drop a couple of droplets into a test cassette, then wait for the results. It’s fairly straightforward and easy to use, if a little gross. As always with these home kits, they should not be a substitute for chatting with your GP if you’re unsure and want a proper check. But for a little bit of reassurance, I think it’s really good. £9.99 (at time of ordering) is, I think, good value for money for something that gives that little bit of reassurance.

the result appears to be incorrect.
Unfortunately, the result appears to be incorrect. The test showed a negative result, but I have confirmed that I do have H. pylori infection.

H pylori tests as advised by NICE - turned out to be easy to do if you have 30 minutes spare.
If you suffer bloating, indigestion or acid reflux then it is a wise idea to head to the NHS website for advice - and there the UK NICE has a great webpage for individuals to give them advice called "Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and dyspepsia in adults: investigation and management". That guidance explains - "Your GP may suggest a test to see if you have H pylori and, if you do, offer a course of treatment to get rid of it". There are good reasons to want to treat it - for the symptoms are unpleasant in themselves and untreated, H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori bacteria ) can cause digestive problems, including ulcers or chronic inflammation in the walls of the stomach (gastritis) or duodenum (duodenitis). Rarely, H. pylori can cause stomach cancer. For most people the infection is easy to treat with antibiotics, so a quick and accurate diagnostic test is a great idea as a first step. So I was keen to test this Berkeley Health Easy Check H. Pylori Antigen Home Test Kit --- Here's what I found... Pros ✅ the technology is familiar to us all after the home covid testing. To make the test most accurate the instructions are key - it is important you should avoid use of laxatives, antacids, or anti-diarrheal medications for at least one week before collecting a specimen of stool (poo). Doing the test was easy. The stool sample needs breaking up to release any bacteria by shaking in the tube the test provides - then it was just waiting for the coloured lines to appear on the test strip (mine took 15 minutes and was negative). Cons ❌ none for me - the stated accuracy is as good as the alternative "breath test" and at £7.99 it is way better value than trying to get a GP appointment and losing half a day from work to get the test and the same again for getting the result. OVERALL - I like this - and would be happy to get it again. Delivery was next day.

Harder to use than I expected
I have done many tests of this type in the past at work so I was expecting it to be simple. In principle it is similar to those you can purchase to check for occult blood in faeces, and the cassette looks similar to those people are familiar with when testing for covid. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly small the print is on the instruction leaflet. Some of this is repeated on the piece of paper they provide to collect you stool sample but you can't really refer to that once you start the test for obvious reasons. So make sure you have good reading glasses to hand as you will need them. Collecting the stool sample was easy enough and placing it into the tube provided. The instructions say shake vigorously but not for how long. So I shook for a good minute. Opening the end and breaking off the point was straightforward and dropping two large drops into the hollow provided works fine, I checked there were no air bubbles and sat down to wait the 10 minutes they recommend. At the end of 10 minutes the liquid had barely reached the control line, which had begun to go red, which told me the test was working. The test line at all times remained clear so I assume the result was negative. After 30 minutes the fluid had still not flowed to the other side of the cassette despite there still being plenty of fluid in the first chamber. I did take a photo of the cassette when I had given up on anything else happening. Unfortunately it is blurred so not very helpful. They are very similar to the cassettes used for covid tests so most people nowadays will understand what should happen. At this point I disposed of the test equipment carefully. And gave my hands a good wash. I have to admit I was disappointed with this test and think a trip to the G.P would be a better idea.

Simple test with quick results
As with any test like this you must trust that the manufacturer and regulators have done their job and that the test is as accurate as claimed. There is no way most people can evaluate this. However, apart from the minor unpleasantness of the test procedure, the test itself is quick to perform and the results likewise arrive very quickly and clearly. This test uses a 'stool sample', so you need to collect some of that on toilet paper or using the crepe strip they provide to tape across the top of your toilet. Once you have your source material you just unscrew the blue end of the sample tube to reveal the sampling rod, poke the sample three times with this rod, screw it back into the tube, shake vigorously, unscrew the cap from the other end of the sample tube, snap off the seal and drip two drops of the solution onto the test cassette hole. This part is just like doing one of those lateral flow tests we're now all so familiar with, post-pandemic. Wait ten minutes and you're done. It's very easy to read the result, which is again just like an LFT. The price right now doesn't seem unreasonable for what you get, particularly as this is the sort of test you'd take at most a few times in your life. The only negative I can think of with this test kit is that the instruction leaflet is printed in absolutely minuscule type, so you need your glasses handy!
