found this very helpful
I had been searching for a way to help me learn Hindi in a simple way.The experts recommend learning Devangali script initially before moving on to more advanced books.Having tried various methods of learning found this book by chance and felt this would be the best way to go.Its based on simple colouring of pictures and the letters plus other activities to help reinforce learning.Just bear in mind that is aimed at young children learning a language.I could have cried when I got this book as its perfect for total beginners. There are other books in this series and have just ordered the others. My advice would be to start with this simple book first.I'm amazed at how much I actually remember. Also invest in some decent materials ie pencil case notebook and some STAEDTLER colouring pencils.Try this book first you wont be disapointed. Also listed in the index is a list of other related books which are worth investigation at a later stage of learning including very simple readers.

A must for anyone who find Devanagari daunting, adult or child!
How I wish I'd bought this when I first started learning Hindi! The hours I've spent copying syllabaries, trying to translate devanagari into romanised Hindi then into English...The format is perfect for learning symbols which otherwise are hard to commit to memory; first you colour in the 'nagari character, twice in different colours, then an image related to the character then there are lines where you repeat the writing of the character yourself and an activity where you will seek and find the character aiding recognition . Perhaps colouring in seems childish but it is fun and taking the time to do this careful does make you familar with the 'symbol'. Just like the other reviewer I've bought the other related books in the series. Simple, practical and fun. It is an effective way to learn Hindi devanagari characters if you are totally unfamilar with them. My son who is 9 is now enjoying this too :-)

Practical, helpful & methodic.
I just recieved the workbook, and it is very practical, helpful, and methodic even for adult learners. I am fluent in spoken Hindi, and can write in Roman Hindi, and have been trying to use online tools to learn the Nagari script, but I find the script to be so alien. However, the first in the series, this workbook is methodic in approaching the vowels, and consonants, and further dividing the consonants, according to the sound, into categories to help you learn each cluster systematically. I find it very useful as a beginners guide to the Hindi alphabet.
