The Complete Yurt Handbook Paperback – 5 April 2001

A small, but interesting book. One I look forward to studying in greater detail, and memorising too.Full of informative diagrams, descriptive text and even a couple of food recipes... YES, food recipes!!It's the kind of book that has the potential to be VERY useful in our changing world.

If you want a book that gives a good overview and some constructional details then this is the book for you.I was initially concerned that the book would only cover Mongolian Yurts, but was pleased to find that it also covers "bentwood" yurts from Turkestan (the Central Asian states that were once part of the USSR). As someone who has lived in and travelled extensively around Central Asia, I didn't find anything I disagreed with in the text. The plans are portrayed as easy which may be a bit optimistic for a beginner, and certainly some woodworking experience is necessary to construct the circular supports at the top of the Yurt.Overall I would say that this is the best book on yurts that I have seen - but then how many are there to choose from!

I built a yurt in the summer of 2012 and just picked this up on a whim after visiting the author's yurt site. I love it. Such a great resource. I'm building a very different style yurt now, bigger and totally different construction style, but am most inspired by the canvas section on sewing my cover. I'd love more info on how the felt walls are made for insulation, how it is done traditionally, as I have tons of access to wool, but don't quite know where to start.Nevertheless, this is a great book to have by one's side and to learn about the traditional Mongolian way, if you are at all interested in yurts.

The book is just too small,the diagrams and text are just too small,it would be 10x better in the A4 format

Useful and interesting. Shows just how easy construction is for the average diy builder when the construction is so clearly explained.
