Rocket Writes a Story

My grandson loves this book!
My 5-year-old grandson LOVES this book. I buy him a lot of hardcover and paperback books in addition to his Skybrary/Reading Rainbow and Epic Books subscriptions, and this is one of his many favorites. I had been talking to him for some time about the importance and joy of being able to read himself and how it would help him (e.g., playing video games) and thought that this book might help further my cause--and it did. He loves both Rocket and the bird and enjoys identifying the words. He is well on his way now to being an independent reader (thanks to kindergarten, of course, as well as being read to) and is so proud. I recently bought "Rocket Writes a Story" and look forward to working with him on writing a story this summer!

I love Rocket!
This is the sweetest story about Rocket and his Teacher, a little yellow chick. Rocket starts a word collection and eventually uses some of his words to write a story about his new friend. We gave these to our 2nd grade kids in the R.E.A.D. program, along with journals, as an end of the school year gift. Some of the words were a little bit of a challenge for them, so it truely does serve pre-k through 8 or third grade as they move from being read to to reading it themselves. We asked our kids to make a collection of the words they had trouble with first so that they could learn those. Then collect more new words through the summer and finally write a story with their words! We can't wait to get back to school next term and see what the kids have written! They will be reading their stories to the Reading Education Assistance Dogs! Rocket is great!

Love this book! I have used this story to inspire my reluctant writers….It is a perfect way to introduce an elementary level writing unit!

Wonderful book!
I bought this book and "Rocket Learns to Read." My son, who is 6 and in first grade, really likes both of them. I read them to him and I read them to his first grade class. I also gave the books as a gift to his first grade teacher (she loves them as well).I think it really resonates with my son because he can relate to Rocket. He has been learning how to read, just like Rocket. And he does a lot of writing in first grade and goes through the same process Rocket does trying to come up with subject matter and editing his work. The story is wonderful and relatable. The illustrations are bright, clear, and engaging. I highly recommend this book and it's companion, Rocket Learns to Read.

Sweet, Educational AND Enjoyable!
Written by the same author as the awesome Duck & Goose series, Rocket Writes a Story is the follow up to Rocket Learns to Read. Though the book has a well-developed plot, it's not too much for little ones to follow (our little one has loved this since she was about 2.5). This story, and the one before it, are great ways to get little ones excited about the idea of reading, and there are many opportunities to practice reading small words and (especially in this one) sight words. The characters are very lovable and sweet, the illustrations are beautiful, and it has excellent shelf life for older kids to continue to enjoy.

Fits exactly to what my kindergartener is doing to learn to write
I was amazed when my son came home from kindergarten with an assignment to make a folder with pictures pasted to it and the words for those pictures, underneath. It was exactly what this dog, Rocket, does. In both cases, they use it to learn to write a story about the things around them and the things they love. I ended up giving my son's teacher my copy since she can use it year after year. Need to now buy my own! (Have not read the other books in this series - yet)

Review of this children's book
I got this for my granddaughter who is 5 years old. The review said it would help teach/encourage a child to learn how to read. Although I would recommend buying this book, I'm not sure it does that. There are pages filled with pictures and words. Perhaps the reader (adult) is to reinforce these words to the child. . . but the child is "reading" the pictures more than the words. It is a nice story line, though, and I think it is a very good children's book.

My Grade 2 students loved it!
My grade 2 students were very excited to hear Rocket Writes a Story. I used it to kick off our writers' workshop. We talked about the importance of having ideas that mean something to the students. As teachers we tend to give students picture word prompts to write about, but with the diversity of students in our rooms, many of these picture prompts mean nothing to some of the students. Rocket learns to write about a topic that he knows and loves, and he learns that it takes time to write a story. The pictures are adorable and it is a cute story. As for Amazon, quick delivery as always!
