Excellent for heavy rain
This is a comfortable, light, hat. At last I have a hat that does not just make the water run down my neck. For a short time in light rain a cheap absorbent hat may be best, but if heavy or prolonged rain is expected keep this breathable Sou'wester in your pocket!

Weatherproof
Just back from a sailing trip from Essex to Brittany with very mixed weather and the sou'wester stood up to the test very well , both comfortable and weatherproof.
