Placed this at back door going into garage for 94 year old. Gives her confidence going in and out, as it could be mounted at height she needed, and is more for balance than supporting weight. Fortunately we were able to secure it to stud rather than Sheetrock so we know it is anchored.

My back hall is tiny with open basement stairs located just inside the entrance door. The situation is an accident waiting to happen, especially for someone who is older or who has balance issues. There isn’t even room to operate a baby gate. I didn’t want a grab bar in the entrance that looks like it belongs in a bathroom or hospital. This unusual “foldable” bar — in stylish black and natural wood — can be pushed up and out of the way when I am home and running up and down the stairs but when I am expecting visitors or my elderly mother, I drop it across the opening at the head of the stairs. Installation instructions are clear. (Just make sure you don’t attach it upside down.) It is very well-built. I do have a little concern that the soft plastic horizontal ‘C’ bracket that holds the wooden arm in the upright position may lose its grip with use eventually but so far, so good.

It's really heavy. Be sure to install it in a stud. We tried with the included metal anchors but it came right off. We moved it over a few inches where a stud wall had been and screwed it in. That rascal isn't going anywhere! Solid as a rock!

Like the solid construction. Dislike that the list of material was mislabeled (see Photo) and lack of instructions on how to install. Used in bathroom next to toilet.
