X1 - This is a great projector
Review is for the X1.This is a big step up from my previous Optoma DLP projector. It’s bright (more on that later), sharp, quiet (use eco) and has amazingly good colours and contrast. At 1080p the image is wonderful, and for me preferable to a lower quality 4K one. 4K being something I have little interest in.Setup is easy and flexible, with a sensible zoom length (none of that useless short-throw nonsense) keystone and corner adjustments available.Smart features look pretty average, but they're not something I use. There are a number of niggling annoying bugs that hopefully will be addressed with a firmware update, although Viewsonic seem incapable of telling me what the latest version should be (mine is v1.00) and if an update is being worked on. In general use these do not effect the experience though.Brightness is staggering. Too bright for most environments and showing significant rainbow effects. Even in eco brightness was still too much, so I used a ND2 filter to tone things down to a reasonable level. This also removed rainbows. Too much brightness seems to be the curse of the modern projector. Stupid and unnecessary from the manufactures, who feel it’s needed for marketing their product. At £300 off in the Prime Sale this thing really is a bargain.Worth noting that I previously purchased one from Warehouse only to have to return it as faulty, with large dust blobs visible on the image. Coincidentally a new Warehouse model appeared shortly after, which makes me wonder if my return has simply been returned to stock?

Fast/low input mode resets all image settings
If you want to use this (X2-4K model) for gaming to take advantage of the low input mode then do not buy it unless you can ceiling mount it perfectly or your screen is very low to the ground (so that projector won't be in your line of sight when using it)If you need to use keystone, digital zoom or corner adjustment to get a proper image these settings will be reset when low input mode is activated. The manual mentions some things will be reset such as zoom and overdrive but does not mention keystone correction. As the projector has to be lined up perfectly it is very limited in terms of placement and was totally unsuitable for my needs so I will return it.I wish manufacturers could be more open about the limitations of their products, if you list multiple selling points but they cannot be used together (eg, project image from any angle, low input mode, image correction) then there should be a way to know that before purchasing.Seems to be the same with other models as well such as PX749-4K although this was at least stated in the user manual for that model
