But that’s not an issue, every dry cleaners in town offers alterations (hemming, etc). Take it in and either put it in and let them pin it to where you want it to hit on you, or just say, remove 2” or 3” or whatever you need removed. You can just ask them to hem without removing the fabric. It will/may leave a deep hem but sometimes that’s better than having something shrink and be too short. Once I decide something fits and I like it, I also wash and dry it (by the tag) several times wearing it in between. This way if it shrinks at all, it won’t get shorter after spending money getting it hemmed and potentially having it unwearable. Some people have brand new things hemmed before ever washing/drying and then they blame the seamstress for hemming it too short when they bring it home, wash and wear the first time. Always wash at least once, and preferably several times prior to hemming. Very few manufacturers pre-shrink fabric before sewing up the pattern these days. It use to be common practice. If needed right away, or it’s too long to wear w/o hemming, then you will need to run it through several wash/dry cycles one behind the other before taking the next day to the seamstress, tailor or to your dry-cleaners. Make sure you read the directions carefully to ensure how it is to be washed or if only dry cleaned. Many fabrics stay in better condition with dry cleaning and will look new longer like jeans etc. —proper starching and ironing can make a big difference in how a garment looks and lasts. Something like this should be first washed and dried on cool or whatever the tag states. Don’t assume — read the tags. Or go to the manufacturers website and find the info or call their customer service number.
