Wilson Basswood Round Thick (X Large 11-12 inch Wide x 1 5/8 inch Thick)

I bought these disks to do some taxidermy work for myself mounting antlers I have bagged from whitetail deer and also some wild turkey tail feathers. What I like most about the disks is that they are nice and thick (most log disks you find are three-quarters of an inch or less) and they are a true cross-cut, NOT an angular cut. They arrived dry, sanded perfectly, with only small, hairline cracks in them that did not need to be filled (this is typical of cross-cut log slabs when they are dried). After a simple clean-up of the disks wiping them down and brushing off loose particles of bark, I was able to urethane them and they turned out PERFECTLY with five coats of urethane on wood and bark. Will DEFINITELY be ordering these again! They are THE BEST! See attached photos...unfortunately the turkey tail feather mounts are not done yet.

The media could not be loaded.  I use these to create custom made Astrological Birth Chart Art Wheels. After staining and hand painting them, and embedding various objects and jewels to represent the planets and other astrological points of significance. I coat the entire object in a two part epoxy resin to lock and seal everything in. The last step in the process is mounting the hardware on the back to hang it. If the finished product is fairly heavy, I usually screw in a large chain on the back. I noticed that the wood began to split in several areas when I installed the screws in the back, even with a thick epoxy coating on both sides. Otherwise the tree slice is nice, the outer bark layer is nice a thick and the whole thing is very natural. I would suggest if you are going to install any screws, nails etc, that you pre-drill all your holes starting with the smallest drill bit and working up. I would buy this brand again, as the overall price and product was very nice. I should have been more careful when putting in the screws. This arrived with all the bark around the edges looking very nice and in tact. I liked that it was tightly wrapped to protect it. The wood finish is smooth and not coated with anything (which is nice as I plan to write on it). It is very large as you can see from the pen comparison, and pretty thick but not super tall in thickness. Would likely not break easily and can hold heavier weight. Great buy! Definitely would recommend!

This wood is stunning and beautiful in every way. The thickness and weight are awesome. However, before purchasing this I did see a lot of people comment that it definitely was NOT 11 to 12 inches. I have to confirm that at no place on the wood no matter which angle I measured it I never got more than 10 1/4 inches. Luckily for me the wedding cake will only be 9 inches around for the bottom layer so I can make this work but in the future I would’ve totally returned it. It’s unfortunate because I realize that this is natural wood. Going forward maybe giving a variance saying that you could receive somewhere between 10”-12” would be would be more helpful for consumers to decide.

We love these and our wedding guests love these! I read the reviews prior so I ordered two for height and just in case it didn't fit the cake. They are not a perfect circle nor they a perfect oval. But they are quality and an actual wood! We use them as a base for our wedding cake and never took them out of the plastic to preserve them just in case there were any issues with bugs. as in some reviews but we've had them for over a month now and I haven't seen any, it still looks great! In the pictures there's our wedding utensils for scale but you can see how they are not a perfect circular or oval shape however our cake fit nicely and it was a 9 inch cake at the base is 6 inches on top. Overall I'm very pleased with them and it was just what we needed for our wedding!

I bought this to make small stool kind thing to practice a tradition Indian drum. This is typcal as it wont make loud sound. It came out very well. Basswood is not very hard, but okay for using some pine wood stick to beat.Not related to the item, but on how I made it, as the barks on the rim are chipping of easily, removed all barks and sanded with 60 followed by 120 grid sand paper, applied stain+poly on the rim to get contrast look. For the legs, used few left over Ikea bed slats.

Very nice product. I was a little worried reading about people receiving moldy products, but I have purchased twice and pleased both times.
