Two wonderful church pieces
An excellent recording of this material. If you want an example of the genre, there isn't anything better.

Transcendent
An ethereal, transcendent sacred work, flawlessly interpreted and performed. A good listening choice for those days when the world is too much with you.

Frankly, it all sounds the same!
This is my second Tallis Scholars recording. The music and recording are just great, but, at the great risk of ruffling some feathers, all the music sounds the same! I love motets and madrigals and all sorts of Renaissance music but these recordings just leave me cold. My other recording is "The essential Tallis Scholars." They are beautifully sung and recorded, but, I am sorry, they all just sound the same. I guess it's just me. I don't know to whom I would recommend these recordings. While a 20 second sample from AMAZON will pique your interest and probably desire, 20 (or more) minutes of it will cause your mind to wander...!

Latin is spoken here
The Tallis Scolars' recording of Alegri's Miserere is clear and riveting and should inspire the next genius musician or theologian. It was a strong, faithful companion during Holy Week this year and one that will be with me all year. Hats off to Head Butler Jesse Kornbluth for a timely recommendation.

Excellent performance
I have heard other versions, and this one is one of the best. I bought the CD specifically for the Miserere, and I was not disappointed.

Tallis Scholars
The music as written is glorious, but I'm a bit disappointed with the Tallis Scholars. They seem to be trying to out-sing each other, rather than blending their voices. Perhaps this is their attempt to reproduce period music, but Allegri and Palestrina deserve the best that a choral group can do in this century. The soprano chokes her high notes so that she sounds like she's screaming. Is this an attempt to reproduce the voice of a boy soprano?
