What we use for a fast portable cutting surface is 4" wide alum. Tape . We just put about 3 layers on top of our table or sometimes the floor (hard surface not carpet) and it works really well and we don't need to have a large cutting that we need to store or set up . We're crusier's so space is limited .we love the knife , use it all the time . **Q: Where is the Sailrite Edge Hotknife made?** A: The Edge Hotknife is made in China. **Q: would this tool cut acrylic light panels ? thank you all** A: It is possible that it would cut that type of material, as I have used my own to cut similar materials before. But this will result in an accumulation of melted materials at the edge, and would likely also result in some browning of material as well as potentially toxic smoke being generated during the cutting process. This tool is really intended for fabric type materials. **Q: Over what type of base will I have to work?** A: I put the "cutting foot" on the knife, and cut sunbrella on my laminate living room floor. It didn't leave a mark.
