Jiffy 7 Peat Seed Pellets Growing Gardening Plant Pack of 100 33 mm

I've only bought them once and I've had very little success with them. I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I definitely have better success with any other method (soil, wet tissue, water, )

I thought I would try these seed pellets this year as going out to pick up seed compost was not so straight forward as usual. I realised when I had hydrated the pellets that I did not really know how to use them. I still had some compost from last year so sowed a mixture of seeds in seed pots and also the pellets (mostly annual flowers and all new seeds). Germination in my seed pots was approximately 90% but less than 10% in the pellets. They came with no instructions. There is a hole in the top which seemed way too big for small seeds but I was only successful with one of the bigger seeds (tagetes linnaeus). It is probably me not getting it but I won’t use these again. I appreciate that the pellets would guard against root disturbance but only if roots develop! I would say, don’t be put off but just make sure you know how they are supposed to work and for what kind of seeds.

First time used these and please with the results. I put a number in a seed tray and watered several time until they swelled to size wanted. Then popped a single seed in each. Used for dahlia seeds. Good germination and then potted on the whole thing into a pot. They come as a dried flat disc. They have a small pin hole to pop the seed in. Takes a bit for them to swell. I am am really please with these and certainly will buy more.

I didn't really read any review but surely I would expect these to decompose as the plant got bigger. this doesn't seem to be the case and while the roots are getting through I'd say it's a bit of a struggle and at a push. Consistency wise they germinated two-thirds of the seeds placed in them. Bit of a novice at growing stuff it's only with the additional time on my hands that I'm giving it a go but to be honest I expected more all-around maybe my expectations were too high......

Easy to use yet very good for seeds ,absorption of water is great

Plus point is every thing I tried germinated in these from herbs to beans and brussels.Minus point is that the webbing does not seem biodegradeable. So a no no for planting out. directly, and removing it is fiddly.
