It’s very quiet and there’s no smell. We keep it on the floor near the kitchen. Now it’s debatable whether the stuff that comes out is actually “compost” since all the good microbes have probably died in the heating and drying process, but I can dump this tiny amount and mix it into yard soil or whatever, and it doesn’t go to a landfill. Much better than a garbage disposal, which we can’t have since we are on a septic tank. I still have to learn about what this does to plants or gardens, but I’ll be experimenting in the spring. Read up about electronic composters and the end-product before you purchase. In the photos I posted, I started it at 7am, and it was done at 4pm when I got home.
