A "kid-sized" explanation of the gospel
"Wow!: The Good News in Four Words" is a new favorite in our house. The illustrations are fun, bright, and catchy. But more importantly, the message is wonderful. I love how the author presented the gospel in a "kid-sized" way without watering down the message. The book starts way back at the beginning with creation (Wow!). It goes on to explain our need of a Savior through the example of the first sin (Uh-oh!). We are taken through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross (Yes!) and His gift of salvation (Ahh!). And it even continues beyond our own salvation into sharing God's gift and love with others (Wow!).There's a parent section at the end that includes verses for each of the four keywords. This makes it really easy to dig even deeper with your child.I highly recommend this book as an introduction to the Gospel!

Great illustrations and easy-to-read short sentences
Wow! The Good News in Four Words is a 30-page children's book that explains God's salvation plan. The four words are keywords repeated throughout the book: wow, uh-oh, yes, and ahh. These keywords are anchors to important themes. As explained in the "Note to Parents" at the beginning, Wow is that "God, the Creator, loves us"; Uh-oh is that "we have all sinned, and the result is a broken world and separation from God"; Yes is that "Jesus died for us and rose from the dead--through him we are offered forgiveness and a new beginning...if we say yes"; Ahh is "saying yes to Jesus gives us eternal life and peace"; Wow is "as we grow in faith, we'll want to tell others the Good News." Each of these themes is given one or more Bible passages as references. Additional Bible passages are listed at the end of the book for each keyword. The book travels from "Let there be light," to Adam and Eve, to the birth of Jesus, to Jesus' death and resurrection. After that, the book switches to more general examples of what this means in life, including Christ is the Life and the Truth and the Way, and the fruit of the Spirit, for example. Simple short sentences are used, with three rhyming lines per stanza. Some pages have one stanza, some have two, but the amount of text is never overwhelming so that the child would lose interest. The illustrations, drawn by Annabel Tempest, are captivating. They are very busy with a lot of detail--tons of things to look at. It's one of those books where you'll see something new every time you read. As is usual for me, I judge the artist on how cute the animals are, and these ones are excellent. They are cartoon-ish and adorable. I appreciate the frequency with which they appear. Animals fill the pages talking about the Garden of Eden, but also appear scattered throughout the second half of the book. The only weird thing is that the keywords that have already been used appear along with the current keyword in-text, but kind of faded out. It doesn't really make sense to read them aloud, and therefore I don't really see why they are there. The only thing they possibly do is provide a road map of where the book came from. It doesn't include the keywords yet to come though.I revived a copy of this book from the publisher, but was not required to post a positive review.

WOW! THE GOOD NEWS IN FOUR WORDS BY DANDI DALEY MACKALL AND ILLUSTRATED BY ANNABEL TEMPEST REVIEW
Finding the right book to share the Gospel with children can be a challenge. You want a great message, illustrations kids love, and a story that will keep their attention. Each child is different and God uses a variety of tools to reach each person. In Wow! The Good News in Four Words by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by Annabel Tempest, kids learn about the Gospel in an engaging way. Filled with beautiful illustrations, and rhyming patterns, this story invites children to participate as the book is read to them.At the beginning of the book, there is a note to parents. While I like this as it explains the concept of the four words, WOW, UH-OH, YES, and AHHH, I’m not sure how much kids will remember the meaning of each of these at the beginning of the story. That said, kids are encouraged to say these words as the story is read to them, which is something I loved. The story pretty much follows creation, Jesus coming and dying, believing in Him, and then life after believing in Jesus. I appreciate that the author went farther than accepting Jesus and ending the story. It was nice that they talked about the Fruit of the Spirit and being in heaven one day singing with the angels. This was a nice story to introduce young children to the Gospel. I liked the way the key words were included and kids were encouraged to say them as the story progressed. I think over time, kids will start to associate the words with certain concepts in the story, which is what the book was designed to do.I really enjoyed the illustrations. They were bright and cute. I enjoyed all of the colors on the pages and found the pictures to enhance the story.Overall, this was a nice book for young children. The author took a concept that can be challenging to explain to children and broke it down in a way that should be understandable and give parents talking points and references to use.*I received a free copy of this product to facilitate this post, however you, my readers, come first and all opinions are my own.
