It's surface mounted not inset. Depth around 25mm

Q: Can I use it outdoor?

It is not waterproof, so short answer is a definite “NO” (as indicated by its description “Indoor”; there is no mention of IP certification). For external use, it would have to have an IP rating (such as IPXY, where Y=4, or 5, or 6, e.g., IP44 at a minimum for rain protection, and IP46 for higher water protection – Google it).

Q: Would this work for electric underfloor heating?

Yes it will be fine as long as the underfloor heating load is not above 13 amps. Most underfloor heating is well below this as it needs to be cost effective, but just check.

Q: Can the transparent cover be left off ?

It’s probably OK, but the cover is to stop ingress of dust/ dirt which if left off completely might impair the unit operation
