Alpen 100705100 "Profi Multicut" PM Tungsten Carbide Multi Purpose Drill Bits, Orange/Silver, 4/5/6/8/10 mm, Set of 5 Piece

OK it took me a while to reconcile £5/drill bit but I really think this is money really well spent. I now use battery drills as the norm and the effort to drill into really tough stuff like concrete and whinstone is really reduced (saving battery and motor life to boot). Seem pretty robsut on mild steel as well. I'm also trying similar bits from Sealy and B&D's tungsten carbide Piranha range that are about half the price but don't look as well made. As an afterthought I will be doing a light sharpen on a £25 B&Q bench grinder to get more life out of the TC tips. If that works these bits become much cheaper but I cannot emphasis enough the reduced effort to drill holes (to the improvement of my work quality). Worth a go.Afterword. As 2020 comes to a close, these bits are still going strong. A little diamond wheel polish if you have access to a motorised tile cutter helps but even with out, I'd guess a life span if five times more without sharpening. Add to that the ease of drilling which is harder to put a price on. Money well spent.

Great multi purpose drill bits, I've drilled through wood, plastic, metal (copper & steel) bricks, blocks, tiles ceramic & porcelain and still going strong just a shame the set doesn't include a 7mm bit. It's worth noting these are multi purpose bits so they don't perform as well as purpose bits for wood metal and plastic, superb through tiles though.

Drills through everything!

Brilliant- did exactly what I would expect!

Not used them yet got them in ready to use when necessary.

Expensive but good, wish I could order some larger sizes but they don't ship to where I live.

I needed to drill some stainless steel. My neighbour showed me the cutting ability of a Tungsten Carbide drill bit so I hunted for a set of my own. I saw these on Amazon and thought they would be just the job. I used a drill press set at 800 rpm, cutting fluid and a forceful feed to keep the bit cutting. I never got through the stainless as the end of the drill bit turned into a ball. I believe Tungsten has an extremely high melting point, perhaps my Tungsten was just having a bad day. So there's £27.17 down the drain. I cannot recommend this product based on my experience.
