Works, with Patience
We bought this translator so my wife could take part in conversation with our German guests this summer. The unit understood and translated accurately beyond my expectations. The main issue turns out to be the people, not the device. If the translator were a human being, people would stop to let the translator translate. However, speakers kept speaking endlessly, making the translation process very disjointed. We ended up buying a second unit for our guests (sister and brother-in-law) to use for practice so that we could use it next time we visit. My wife and I will do the same. So, my conclusion: the device works well, but the human users need a little training. If you want to use this unit to communicate with sales people, restaurant and hotel workers while travelling, it should work for you perfectly. Long story-telling requires patience.

Another Wi-Fi Infested, Out-Of-Box Failure. Can Nobody Make A Translator Device That Actually Works?
I bought this on the idea that the word "offline" actually, you know, means something - something like... ohh... "offline," maybe - and the very first thing it did when I powered it up was... demand to suckle on a Wi-Fi teat.So I took this down to a local McDonald's (nobody in his right mind should have Wi-Fi in the home 'cause it's an instant security hole,) and with the Wi-Fi there to suckle, this thing finally completed its power-up process. Three cheers for Step One.... and then it started telling me that the time and date were wrong and that they needed to be set or...So take three guesses. Go ahead. I dare ya....it's not going to do anything. Period. Until you correct the date and time.Except... hmm, the date and time are 100% accurate. But out of desperation I decided to play along with this piece of trash anyway, and set the date and time - to exactly what it was displaying, because, hel-LO, the date and time were already correct. And of course this action did nothing but get me another prompt to "Set correct date and time." In an endless loop. Can you guess what activity did NOT happen at any time during this hassle? At all? Ever?Yeah, voice translation. That thing.I couldn't even get this piece of junk to its start screen. So in the last two years I have bought the following voice translator devices:- A unit that failed to hold a charge for longer than about twenty minutes;- A unit that arrived completely bricked;- A replacement for the bricked unit that worked ok until... it demanded to suckle Wi-Fi or else - and then had a USB jack failure which prevented charging altogether and therefore rendered it useless;- And then this thing, which is advertised as "offline" and immediately demanded to be connected... ONline, and then hung up on a date/time setting glitch that was insurmountable. At least this last piece of junk had the good form to fail immediately, so I could at least get a refund. But I'm wondering if there exists anybody on this particular planet who is capable of producing something that should be as bonehead-simple as:A handheld translator that a.) actually works right out of the box with zero prompts for a Wi-Fi Borg or Set Date And Time Or Go Pound Sand or any other weird, utter irrelevancy, and b.) has all of the languages loaded internally and therefore not only does *not* need any kind of network connection but does not even waste the expense on Wi-Fi circuitry in the first place. The date/time hangup is clearly a coding glitch, so the place that mass-produced these pieces of junk didn't even bother to do QA before they sent them out the door.Dear Santa: Can you work the miracle that's apparently necessary to make this dreamed-of simple device a reality? Because nobody south of the North Pole seems capable of getting it done and I have had it up to my hairy eyebrows with doing the crapshoot of "Maybe THIS one will work..."Please.And I 'been good.'Swear.<***> 6

Nifty little device
This really is a nifty little device. It's easy to set up and use. I like the fact that it can translate offline. It's size is perfect, not too big. Comes with a nice cover which makes it easier to hold and non-slip. This is going to get a ton of use. The screen time-out should offer more choices. It goes from three minutes to always on. It should offer 15 and 30 minutes. The charging cable seems to be tight at least on my device. But other than that this is a great little device.

Need WiFi
Works great when there is WiFi available, but you'd need to pre-record statements for Taxi's etc. when there is no WiFi available.

Fantastic!!
This is a great translator! The reason I purchased this one is because it was supposed to be able to work without WiFi and it does!! The amount of words is a little less, but it definitely does the job!! We go to Brasil often and I got this translator for this trip and it has made a world of difference!! When we were at a family gathering, one lady liked it so much that she got one too because she works internationally. Because it has a print out screen, I can listen and read it so I’m actually learning Portuguese because of this translator! The battery life is great as well! I hardly needed to charge it at all. I absolutely love love love this translator!! It is a life saver and a life changer!! I’d give it 10 stars if I could!

New but used???
Received the package sealed like it was brand new. Peeled the screen protector, new start up and everything. But the protective case has been used.

Soooo helpful
I bought this device for a trip to El Salvador. I do not speak Spanish. I was able to talk to friends and family without having a family member interrupt for me. Which was really nice.Sometimes it would not translate correctly and I would have to try again but that rarely happened. The device is so user friendly a 5 year old was using it without being shown how.Worth it for traveling to other countries

False all languages use offline
It Is not true that this product works offline. I wanted to place offline translation, downloading the Dutch language as patch, but...there is no Dutch language patch! Only some most common languages. So the advertisement is false
