I Think I'm Ready to See Frank Ocean

Stunning book from a very gifted writer. Highly recommend her latest collection of essays, This is Major.

So beautiful. One of the best first books I've read.

I scanned this book and chose it on the basis of a general feel. Reading the poems carefully--and several times--produced even more pleasure. And I'm not even hip to the cultural references, being a middle-aged white male with little interest in the social and musical scenes Lawson explores. I responded to her style, sometimes crisp and startling ("How much fantasy has onced us"), sometimes piling up academic observations (especially in "the ocean is ENDLESS") to the point where the overspill their intellectual boundaries and become input to a larger froth of words. I knew the book could have broad appeal after I read two poems out loud to my wife, who also enjoyed them.
