EDIT/UPDATE 2026: I've used this compact, beautiful, soft-close, iconic butterfly lid, SimpleHuman bin in the KITCHEN for two years now. I continue to love SH and their butterfly lids. However, -- the plastic liner of this bin grabs bad smells like you would not believe. The bags provide no protection, even after emptying the trash, spraying it down with Odoban or Lysol, and leaving it open to air --- one can accurately report on exactly what had been sitting in there for a few days. Boo! Smells NOT contained :-( My old (massive) SH stainless steel butterfly had a black bin and I wonder if this blue plastic is just more porous? Not sure. Either way... might be a deal breaker in a small space if you don't like smelling raw onion or pet food moldering away.... So sad. I truly love the look, the classy, silent open/close and overall engineering. But damn, they need to get these bins fixed!! 2024: If you need a COMPACT, WHITE bin, with a SLIM profile, for a small household, and love you a gorgeously engineered slow-close perfect butterfly lid -- this one's for you! :-) Full disclosure: I am a SimpleHuman fan of ONE style (Butterfly). But, I hate how huge most of their bins are. I had a BigBox version of SH in stainless steel version for 10-11yrs. in the 'butterfly' style. Loved it to death and it survived several movers until the last one. Hunting for a replacement, I tried the 45, then the 40 gallon. Way too big and, in stainless steel, it was the first thing your eye was drawn to upon entering a very small/open concept space. I didn't want the trash bin to be the first thing everyone noticed in our new home. In desperation I tried a few other brands/styles, but here's the thing --- once you experience the beauty and genius of the compact (space saving) Simple Human butterfly style---nothing else feels right. Just as I was about to give up, I noticed a random listing on Amazon for a "diaper" bin! What!? How is this a "diaper" bin? Simply because it is smaller (perfect!) and white (double perfect!!)?? However, I wasn't sure if it was going to be big enough. I decided one last attempt was worth it. I"m in LOVE with this bin! Nothing about it says "diaper" so I think SH was just attempting to expand their market share with some intern's idea about how to sell this product! STOP IT. Market it alongside your other bins! It is a PERFECT size for a small/open apt/condo (common in urban areas) and definitely large enough for 1-2 people who plan to empty their trash at least once a week! See pics. The ONLY downside... 13gallon trash bags are too big but can be rigged to fit, but need to be tightly wound around the top of the bin liner and then poked through the hole in the back. You do get a 20-pack of their SH bags with this bin. In case you care, SH g-bags for this are style "L" and measure 17" (wide) by 24" (long). Still on the hunt for generic, lower cost bags but willing to keep using the bigger ones if necessary.

Have had the larger size butterfly can for the kitchen for 15 yrs and it was worth every penny. This size is good for the bathroom and containing odors.

I genuinely don't understand the positive reviews, especially from those using this thing for diapers. This pops up instantly when looking for a diaper trash barrel, and it has tons of positive reviews. Yet I just returned it. This trash barrel is, well, trash. It doesn't fully shut, even if it did it wouldn't matter because that slit you see running down the middle is plenty wide enough for smells to escape. We change the trash frequently, and even still, the smell from the poopy diapers would instantly escape this piece of garbage. So now we're looking for a different diaper barrel. Sigh.

We use this as an alternative to the litter genie which I did not feel was as pleasant to look at. This thing does a surprisingly good job at containing the odor and it's much easier on the eyes. We have had it for about 2 years now and it has held up incredibly well, it looks and functions the same as the day we bought it. If you have cats and are looking for something other than the litter genie give this a try.

Great small space receptacle and the lid is quiet and smooth. But it is not a diaper pail, the smells absorbed into the plastic liner and I can't get rid of it even with bleach.

Lovely and as expected. Works well for my doggies pee pads. Fits perfectly in the small area next to my washing machine.

This has to be one of the worst diaper trash cans on the market. I gave it 2 stars instead of just 1 because aesthetically it does look nice. However, it’s completely useless for blocking the smell of diapers because the lid doesn’t even close all the way! The two flaps don’t go down fully so even though it has the deodorizer the smell of stinky diapers continues to waft in the room. Unless your baby poops rainbows and glitter that doesn’t smell, do not buy this useless trash can!

So far this unit has been excellent, it stays clean, it's easy to toss dirty items without touching it, and I'm very surprised at how well it has contained the odors considering how wide it opens.
