Our genuine Panama hat is hand woven and fairly traded in Ecuador. Made from natural "iraca" palm fibre which is far cooler and breathable than synthetic materials or cheap replicas. Panama hats are made and worn all over Latin America, but the traditional Panama hat which has taken its name from the Panama canal, are made in Ecuador. Their flexibility and the fact that you can fold or roll them for traveling, makes them unique. The sizes are in centimeters and based on the circumference of the head passing across the middle of the forehead. Our smallest is 54cm and the largest 62cm. As all our hats are handmade, the brim size varies slightly but it normally measures between 6 cm and 7.5cm. Please choose your size when placing your order - we will gladly exchange your hat for a different size if it turns out to be the wrong one. You may also wish to consider our basic Tumi cardboard Panama travel tube or our Tumi balsa wood Panama travel box. If so, just search for them on . Tumi was founded in 1978 promoting fair trade crafts and goods with Latin America, working closely with organisations such as Traidcraft and Oxfam Trading. Tumi has worked with our hat makers in Ecuador for many years and ensure that we pay a fair price (set by our partners), good working conditions and a sustainable future for our workers. Please note that your hat will not be posted rolled up/folded. It will instead be posted in a box large enough to accommodate it without it being folded. The reason for this is that you should wear a Panama Hat for a few days/week before first rolling it. This allows the hat to adapt to the shape of your head and develop flexibility. Failure to do so will result in damage to the hat and shorten its lifespan.

Excellent value
The Tumi Panama Hat is excellent value for money and the size is 100% accurate. I had expected material to be inferior for the price but contrary to my expectations this is a very well made Panama hat. Instructions concerning how to fold this hat are included and the hat was delivered in a box which ensured hat's shape was not damaged in any way. I also purchased the Tumi Cardboard Travel Tube and would recommend purchasing this at the same time as the Panama Hat. Don't bother buying cheaper hats which are supposedly the 'real thing' buy Tumi because they enact Fairtrade and only sell genuine Panama Hats. This Panama hat will protect wearer from the sun and provided one follows instructions on how to fold hat when travelling this will keep the hat in excellent condition and ensure the hat will provide purchaser with many years of wear.

I was very pleased when the hat arrived as it was so light ...
I was very pleased when the hat arrived as it was so light and fine compared to a previous genuine Panama I purchased many years ago from M&S. I was quite surprised a Fedora style was described as foldable but the very fine Toquila makes this possible. I did not fold the hat as I was still a bit concerned of damage. I was quite dissapointed that a split occurred in the crown area along one "ridge" of the hat after 3 weeks wear despite being very careful in handling. It is very fine and being a natural material there can be unseen weaknesses. On reporting the fault directly to the supplier I was offered a replacement without question which has arrived as promised. I was given the option to opt for the more durable non foldable version which I chose and the Toquila in the crown is more robust but the hat still feels light and appear fine and has a quality look. If you must have a foldable hat then extreme care is required in handling but you will be rewared with a very light, well made Panama. Personally the more robust version that does not fold looks almost as fine in construction but is likely to last longer and is the better choice if folding is not required. Just wear it through the airport and stand out from the crowd but Remember to take off for the security photo's!

One of my favourite hats after a year.
Nice hat. It was a bit larger than expected. Normally this is a good thing, as I'd pad the internal band, but this isn't such an easy option with a hat of this style (I discovered). I'd might go for one slightly too small and stretch it instead. (NB. I'm 57.5 so ordered a 58 and wish I'd ordered a 57). However, after a few months it seemed to shrink to fit anyway. If you're wondering about genuine panama hats, the point is they're made out of a special reed rather than normal straw. I have straw hats of a similar style and they are nothing like the same; hard and brittle instead of soft and flexible.Foldable? Well, yes I think you could probably abuse this and get away with it. I suspect people who roll panamas do so for the novelty. I've stuck this in a suitcase and laptop bag and it's survived.

... for years and I'm not disapointed - rolls up beautifully and is easy to reshape once at your destination ...
This is the 'proper' summer hat I've been promising myself for years and I'm not disapointed - rolls up beautifully and is easy to reshape once at your destination - took on a recent Greek island holiday but was very very windy so didn't want to risk it getting blown away so only used a couple of times out of the wind - and as it's made of natural materials it's light and breathable. You need to measure your head acurately to ensure a good fit.

Large slice of humble pie!
This is my second review and I have to apologize for my earlier criticism, I have now found that the hat was removed from it's point of delivery by a friend in order to keep it safe whilst I was away. Ironically they had completely forgotten about it. Well the hat fits well, the suppliers had been very helpful replacing an earlier one which was too big due to my poor measuring. It is a very nice quality and I am delighted to have it.

Ruined by bad packaging
I really can't believe the manner in which this expensive hat was packed. Although it is 'rollable', it was FOLDED and came to me flat packed, and it appeared that it had been stored like this for some time prior to me receiving it. Even the Tumi website suggested it shouldn't stay rolled up for more than about 72 hours, let alone being folded. Consequently, it had a crease right along the middle. I tried in vain to reshape it, but it became obvious that it was never going to return to its proper shape, and I had no option but to return it. Very disappointed.

Excellent service and a lovely hat
My husband knew there might be a problem with fit as he is an in between size. The first hat was slightly too big but following a phone call with someone at Tumi, we were advised to return the hat direct with a request for a more precise size and they would do their best. And they certainly lived up to their promise! The second hat was received quickly and is a perfect fit. Husband is very pleased! The service we received was friendly, helpful and efficient and the hat itself is lovely quality.

It survived my negligent packing
I got this hat (the brown band version) to take on holiday because it could be rolled and so could be put in a suitcase.1. The colour of the brown band version is not as dark as the image suggests. (This may be a good or a bad thing!)2. I marked the fit as "as expected". If pushed I would say it was on the slightly bigger side of "as expected". This is easily remedied with a foam reducing strip (Google "hat reducer") or even a folded bit of tissue.3. I only ordered it a few days before I went on holiday. The instructions advise you to wear it for a few days or even weeks before you first roll it. I wore it only for a few hours. Secondly, I left it rolled for about 48 hours in the case; they suggest as short a time as possible. None-the-less it emerged relatively unscathed. It is a little bit like linen - at first I was a bit alarmed at the state of it, and the number of creases in it, but after I had worn it for a few hours, the creases dropped out and it returned to its original form. While it never quite goes back to its pristine original state, I am very impressed with the hat's ability to return to normal, especially since I didn't really follow the instructions.
