Best ever wish I had these in 1998 when I was going into middle school
I literally bought everyone of the middle school series of these books and I wish they had these when I was in school!

Fat book for homeschool
I bought these books because my daughter is homeschooled. She needed something to help her stay engaged, the computer has too many distractions. I like these books because she likes them and she understands how to do her work. This book is very detailed, it was a great investment. I even use it to brush up on my math skills.

Would not choose again
Teacher here, be careful of misprint mistakes. Page 106 example is incorrect. Still working my way through. The size of the book is not large so it's easy to take with you. The pages are colorful and eye-catching. I do not like the way the book is set up and organized. The beginning of each chapter goes through multiple (many) skills. Then at the end of the skills review, it covers exercises after exercises for the student to practice. I prefer one skill then practice, one skill then practice. This will not promote mastery otherwise. So now I have to organize the skills that correspond with the exercises. Considering on returning but I need to review skills now since I have waited too long already.

Great book
I got this book as a supplement for my 8th grader as a preparation for highschool and SAT but it's turned out to be a real lifesaver! I have no idea how my kid's managed to get A in ELA even though he hates and struggles with the subject. We didn't realized the severity of it until we got this book and he told me it's too hard because he had no idea what a clause or a phrase is. I nearly cried in despair lol. What on earth are they teaching these kids in school?? My 2nd grader doesn't even understand what a verb or a noun is! It seems all they teach is reading comprehension, which really baffles me. Shouldn't grammar be the first thing to be taught? How do they expect these kids to understand a whole essay and write out a proper answer if they can't even identify the structure of a single sentence? I'm very glad I found this gem of a book so we can start catching up on all the basic knowledge that my kid has been missing out on. The explanation is straight forward and easy to understand. I really appreciate this as English is my second language and most of the time I end up having to read through and relearn a lot of these stuffs myself so I can properly explain it to my kid lol. I also got the Algebra I and my kid loves that one since it's his favorite subject.

Great, but does have mistakes
Parts of this book are great, amazing actually. But other parts are flat out wrong. At first we thought every book has a mistake, that's okay, but it has several. It has been good practice to see what our child catches for mistakes, but unless you know the subject well, and are helping your child navigate through them, this may get them into trouble in some areas.
