Review: Crazy holographic color shift — looks different from every angle - used the Rust-Oleum Color Shift Iridescent Shimmer on a couple of small projects (a bike helmet and some wooden décor pieces) and the effect is seriously cool. It gives a true iridescent, almost holographic shimmer that flips through different colors depending on the light and the angle you’re looking from. In bright sunlight it throws off rainbow flashes; indoors under regular lighting it’s more of a soft pearly multi-color shift. Key tip that makes a big difference: use it over a solid black base coat. I primed everything with black first, then put on 3–4 light coats of the Color Shift, letting each one dry a few minutes. The black underneath really makes the color-changing pigments pop. Without the black base the effect is much more subtle. The spray pattern is smooth and the any-angle tip is handy for getting into tighter spots. It dried to the touch pretty quickly and the finish feels durable once fully cured. Coverage is decent for an effect paint — one can went a long way on smaller items. Only small notes: shake the can really well and often (the mica/pigments settle), and keep the coats light so you don’t get runs. Overall I’m really happy with how it turned out and already planning to use it on more projects. If you want that eye-catching color-shift look without going the expensive custom paint route, this is a solid, fun option.

This paint is gorgeous! I used it over a black base coat and applied two coats just to make sure I had good coverage.
