A kitchen essential for parmesan lovers
I was given one of these by an Italian friend a long time ago, and she was a keen cook, so I thought at the time it must be good. And I was right, it lasted somewhere between 15-20 years before giving up the ghost (as I think I may have over-filled it once too often) and it had become one of the most used items in my kitchen. I am so pleased to find this replacement, it seems as good quality as my last one. I honestly don't know how parmesan lovers can do without one of these! It's easy to clean, I put mine in the dishwasher. Yes they clog occasionally but a minor hitch quickly solved with a poke with a knife, a minor inconvenience for such a great tool. Highly recommended.

Easy to use, not very robust
This is a really easy to use parmesan grater, we used to have one which we bought in Italy many years ago and it felt much more robust and we had it many years, this one works in exactly the same way but it does feel a bit flimsy although no problems so far. Parmesan is on the table at so many meals in our house and this is a hygienic way of using it, no hands touch the cheese which is great! (no pun intended) There is a small sliding trap door on the bottom so you can grate as much cheese as you need and then release all at once onto your food, it's fun to do too, and then can be washed after use.

Easy to use
I had an earlier version of this grater for about 25y. Worked well over that time. Connection of handle to the body on this new one is plastic rather than metal so might not last 25y but otherwise identical. Works well and easy to use.

Does it compare to my old reliable Lakeland one
Arrived on time. Years ago I had a Lakeland version which was brilliant. It finally died after years of service, and I've been looking for a replacement for ages. Came across this one - not used it yet so we'll see how it compares, but I've already noticed that it's missing a lid which my old one had and which meant that a piece of parmesan could be kept in the grater without going off or dry out.

It took 2 of us to try to use this grater
We found this grater impossible to manage with 1 person. Having followed the instructions very little grated cheese emerged onto my pasta. It had all clogged up inside the grating barel. It was very difficult to hold steady while rotating the handle. We fould the best result came when one of us would hold the casing steady and the other tried to turn the handle. As we both suffer a little with arthritus we really struggled to grate any cheese at all. What little did great then had to be scrapped out of the grater barrel as it would just bind up inside. Additionally when I went to clean it I found bits of the cheese had somehow become wedged between the metal grater and the plastic of the body and had to be prised out with a knife. When I put it in the dishwasher some of the small particals of cheese that had been compressed into the corners were still there when it was taken out. I wondered if it was the cheese I was using, Pecorino Romano, was the problem, so I also tried Pecorino Sardo, Grana Padano, Parmigiano Regriano and even Manchego Viejo but the result was the same - Hopeless. I packed it up to return it but the cost of the return was more than the original purchase price even for a prime member so in the bin it went. Just not a functional piece of equipment.
