MOR/RYDE JP54017 Spare Tire Carrier

Got my 35” spare where it needed to be. Much sturdier than the stock carrier. I also have the Morryde hinges and the tailgate feels solid.

Installed on the MOR/ryde tailgate reinforcement kit. Tire feels nice a solid on there and it raises the tire up enough that it gives plenty of clearance to access your trailer hitch. Loses 1 star because the lug bolts are a little on the short side and makes it a little difficult to attach the spare if you have anything else (license plate bracket, spare tire brake light ring, etc

This is a must have if you go beyond 50lbs is spare tire weight. The higher load capacity and the resting spare height increase is great. No more fear of my tire breaking off after bumps 👍🏾

First: this things is a major PITA to install, particularly if you get the whole package like I did just two weeks ago. The instructions are paltry. They assume you are installing pieces of the complete solution independently. You realize later that you will have to unbolt the last piece you just did. Second: Bring out your soft mallet, lining up the components and getting the bolts in will be a challenge. Be ready to curse every 10 seconds. No kids in the garage while doing this. Third, and this is the worst. As you can see in the pictures, one of the wheel studs is already broken!!!!!!. All we have done is mount and dismount a stock tire. The JK has not even been moved!!!! As you can see the stud is just a regular cheap bolt, tack welded into place by two little beads. How this is supposed to hold up on harsh trails, day after day with a 35" or heavier tire cannot be explained, unless there are some hidden quantum concepts the rest of physics has yet to understand. Spend your money with the big boys for quality. This solution is very much home made and not ready for prime time. Most disappointing. Will be missing the trails this week :-(

The 4 screws for reattaching the 3rd brake light are completely useless, too small and too short. I spent more time sifting through my tackle box of hardware to find screws that would work than I did installing the carrier itself. Otherwise the carrier is very nice and sturdy.

After much research into aftermarket spare carrier options for my JKUR, I have ended up with the full setup from MORryde(hinges, reinforcement, and carrier). What prompted replacement/improvement of the factory components was a significant tire size upgrade, which caused a fairly loud rattle in my tailgate, which was fixed by the hinges alone. However I got the reinforcement kit and carrier soon after because of another tire upgrade to 35s. First off, everything I've gotten from MORryde has been nothing but high quality and functional, and fairly affordable. Sure, there are "prettier" tire carriers/reinforcement for much more money, but the ones I've seen in person are no better at holding the tire onto the jeep and probably won't wear as well as this one. But if form>function is what you're after, why are you driving a jeep? Especially when 90% of it is covered by a tire. Also considered a bumper mounted carrier, but that's just one more set of hinges to rust/rattle. Fit and finish are excellent and I had no issues during installation. It probably took me longer to extend my brake light harness than to put the carrier on using hand tools. If you can tie your own shoes, you can likely get this on without any swearing or hitting it with a hammer... I've been on some challenging and very rough and rocky trails since installing the carrier and I have zero complaints. I highly reccomend their hinges as well if your factory hinges have started to rattle, and also the reinforcement if you have 35s or larger and plan on doing any real off roading.

Does exactly as it says. Holds spare tire on the back of my jeep. I run 35inch tires and fit great. My one complaint would be how far it sits out but doesn't affect the performance. Would suggest the stronger supports with anything larger than a 35” tire. So far holding up great and no rust. Good quality
