A gift for psychotherapists enamored with Tillich
As a psychologist and psychotherapist who has been grasped by Tillich's work, I find Cooper's book to be a gift. Having read a lot of Tillich's work and some of what has been written about him, I continued to struggle to make sense of much that remained elusive. Happily, that struggle will never cease, but Cooper's lucid exposition has helped clarify a great deal of the controversy and put it into context. It is little wonder that Tillich has so much to offer to psychology and psychotherapy; as Cooper elucidates, Tillich was immersed in dialogue with many of our illustrious forebears. If psychotherapists have any doubt that this work is relevant to their own, they might consider Cooper's point that they are implicit theologians in their practice. This book is a marvelous resource for any in the field of psychotherapy who seek to understand more thoroughly the interface between clinical practice and spirituality. The ever-increasing need for humanism in contemporary psychotherapy is nowhere better exemplified than in Cooper's insightful synthesis. He is a master teacher.

I’m on my third copy
I took classes with dr cooper and this was a challenge to read. Tillich’s thoughts were the deep expression of a life and its consequences on the human mind. Terry brought to life the incredible anxiety that Tillich faced in his understanding of faith but through a lens that was clear. I went into the class this book was based on after reading and writing all over Tillich’s book cause I knew the depth and attention that terry took in his writing. And I sat next to a minister and I couldn’t believe the eloquence that terry took to touch on every question I had in Tillich writing. I loaned my copy to a friends mom, brought another and gave it to a hospice nurse. The third copy went to a rock star. Everything dr cooper writes is hard to read because he challenges you to change and adapt.Sincerely a cooper trooper ( thanks for help with scholarships and grad school recommendations)
