Good quality recordings from a brilliant orchestra
I really enjoyed this 4 CD package as it transports you back in time to.....a less stressful era (without the Covid 19 threat!) It is ideal background music to listen to, so relaxing, especially with a nice tea or coffee by your side! (or something a little stronger perhaps!) The only thing that prevented me giving it a 5 star rating, was that I felt the last (no 4) disc did not have the same appeal; almost as if they had run out of favourite choices to fill it up.....but that's just my opinion, you may disagree of course. With that said, the first three discs are, in themselves, well worth the money. I've no regrets about buying this. I hope you find my review helpful.

Post War nostalgia
Anybody born before 1960 will instantly recognise these tunes that were frequently heard on domestic wireless, before the advent of mass TV viewing and the Beatles. This CD evokes much nostalgia and revives ingrained childhood memories of long ago.A lot of the music was 'borrowed' and used as a signature tune for radio plays, and documentaries etc. A lasting example, since 1951, is still currently used for the "The Archers" on BBC Radio 4.The insert cover provides some short biographies of the composers and the names they gave their tunes. The orchestration is crisp and lively; a thoroughly uplifting programme of music

Beautiful Music:
This is a beautiful collection of contemporary classical music which goes back through the decades to the 1900s. A fair proportion of this music was used as the introductory tunes for programs on BBC radio and as such, brings back many happy memories to me of my childhood when we had the radio besides a few other gadgets such as the gramophone to entertain us at home. Other than such gadgets, we entertained ourselves with card games and board games and reading books. (Many other entertaining ideas were also available, of course, such as sports and gardening, theatre and cinemas but this is irrelevant here.)

A disappointment.
Having looked at the previous reviews about this CD I decided to purchase. I have to say that I was very disappointed with the CD.Being Digitally Recorded the tracks were very clean, but they were; with the exception of a few; sadly lacking in Pace, Phrasing and Atmosphere when compared to the originals. For my money the only CD to purchase to capture this is 'The Great British Experience' 50 original light music classics. This CD; although being Digitally Remastered; conveys the true Sound and Atmosphere of that time. This is something that cannot be reproduced.John S. Rodwell.PS. Have had this CD box set now for some 2 years, and I've had a slight change of heart. The one place I listen to it a lot is in the car. I find it very good music to drive to.John S. Rodwell.

Easy, enjoyable listening
Have recently purchased this cd, and was more than pleased with the excellent presentation, quality, and crisp clear sound recordingof all tracks. My three favourite tracks out of this compilation are Barwick Green- theme tune for Radio 4's The Archers, March- theme tune for the 60's BBC tv series Dr. Finlay's Casebook, and The Grasshopper's Dance. I first bought British Light Music Classics(Volume 1) back in 1996, when I used to shop regularly at my local HMV store in my home town of Manchester. Again, I was more than pleased with that cd also. Well worth the 5 star rating! Enjoy!!
