Oof! Noah goes on an emotional journey in this one. Poor guy. He’s never gotten over his boyfriend Rick’s death, blaming himself for making selfish decisions that might have caused Rick more pain. He’s convinced he can never be in another relationship. But then he meets Kai.Kai and Noah seem like an unlikely pair. Noah is outgoing and snarky and colorful while Kai is stoic and grumpy and cowboy. But right from the start they seem to have a connection that just gets deeper the more they spend time together. But still, Noah won’t let himself be more than friends with benefits. By the time, Noah recognizes that he’s falling in love with Kai, Kai has realized how self-destructive Noah is.I appreciate the way the author doesn’t skim over the real trauma that Noah experienced and doesn’t make it seem like love will solve everything. It’s a much healthier depiction of how love supports. So Noah has work that he has to do before he can have his happy ending.I love how much we get of the characters from the previous books, Alec and Dylan and Tyler in Memphis. Kai’s sisters are a lot of fun too. This is a really good series and I’m glad I discovered it.

A little bit of a mixed bag.
3.5 stars rounded up for Ky. Noah was never my favorite character in this series. His rather swishy mannerisms and inappropriate remarks and innuendo grated my nerves when he was on the scene. It was easy to tell that Rick's death still weighed on him in some fashion but why did his friends never confront him about his behavior? They just took his facile answers and devotion to personal bartending, at face value. Ky was a hunky cowboy turned doctor, with a wide streak of protective when it came to his sisters. I wanted to wrap him up in a blankie and take him home. Noah and Ky were initially like oil and water and there was a bit too much one step forward, two steps back.It also took too long for the story to really go anywhere. It was livened up at the times when Ky succumbed to Noah's wiles. There was bribery of a sales clerk and rimming on top of the bar (and it wasn't salt on a margarita glass). Then there was the really long scene that went ev-ery-where. It still took more than 3/4 of the book to get to the heart of things. The resolution was a little predictable but written very well with just a little twist. So there were very bright spots as well as some tedious times.I hope there will be a book for Logan, Tyler's "boomerang boyfriend" from book one. He appears here for a short time and he's adorable! There's more revelations about Dylan and Alec's venture into parenthood, too. Book one will remain my very favorite of the series.

a wonderful addition which is totally worth the wait...
How to review a book that grabbed my heart years before I read it... yes, I know it sounds crazy, but you heard me right. Noah is a significant character throughout The Boyfriend Chronicles. I have been waiting for his book for a long long time, and I have never been given such an amazing gift for my patience before. This is the third story in the series and for maximum reading pleasure I would say it's best to start with The Backup Boyfriend and The Boyfriend Mandate, or reread them as I did the past few days.River Jaymes delivers an unforgettable masterpiece with The Boyfriend Makeover. Noah and Ky’s story has a relatively simple plot, but the magic happens when the writer gives this simple story so many layers, packing it with so many amazing feels that the book takes over... the story and the feelings it evokes in you take over... you live and breathe with the characters. It’s a rare, but wonderful experience you wouldn’t want to miss. This book has everything I love in my MM romances. It has heart, amazing feels, unique characters, great depth, no unnecessary complications, and style. A style that grabs you on the first page and takes your whole being on an emotional journey you will likely never forget. I was crying at times, laughing out loud a lot. Noah is one of the greatest characters ever written. When you are in the middle of a heartbreaking scene and you are looking for a tissue, he delivers a line and you start laughing and crying some more with a huge grin on your face. I just LOVE him and this story from the bottom of my heart. We meet everyone from the previous books, see how happy they are, how they deal with some life-altering situations together, and how this wonderful group of friends form a unique family we love so much. Ky is the perfect partner who helps Noah live his life again the fullest. They have a wonderful chemistry, and a deepening connection that creates a sweet, heartwarming love story I’m going to read over and over again. Highly recommended!!!

A perfect series
Finding a perfect series can be hard, a lot of times book 2 or book 3 falls flat. This? Is not one of those. Every single book in the series was perfect. I enjoyed the unique plot lines, different personalities, and careers that each book had to offer. I also appreciated how connected everything was and how full circle everything was.I loved how Rick was never forgotten during this story.Thank you to the author for this spectacular series.
