In addition to the kit I needed some cable ties and electrical tape to secure and mount the voltage monitor/switch off unit and excess cable. Tools I required were the (included) trim tool, long cable ties (for cable routing), some tape (to secure the USB cable to the cable tie during routing, a socket, ratchet and extension bar (to secure the earth lead fitting to an earthing point bolt) and pliers to cut the cable tie excess. A voltmeter or circuit tester is essential. To fit the kit you need to find two distinctly different fuseways in your fusebox. An ‘always on fuseway’ and a key switched one that only activates when the vehicle is switched on. These don’t need to be empty – the ‘piggyback’ connectors supplied can work on both empty and occupied fuseways. It is critical to find which of the 2 pins in the fuseway are live and to fit the leads so the tail is on the ‘dead’ pin, otherwise the fuse(s) won’t function. The included manual is well illustrated on this. The most difficult part of the fitting was identifying the switched fuseways. On some cars (mine included) the switched fuseways remain live for some time after the key is removed. And something like activating a seat pressure sensor can reactivate them. The solution was to leave the car for 30 minutes, everything off, key out with the back door unclosed.
