18 inch Bolt Tongs with V-Bit Jaws for Blacksmiths and Farriers - Superior Blacksmith Tongs (18 Inch, Black)

I admit it, I'm a cheapskate. But I really needed another set of bolt tongs for times when a few of us are working simultaneously at the forge. My skill level isn't yet high enough to make a pair of them yet, but I wasn't comfortable with the $55 price. Still, I bit the bullet and bought these. I was not disappointed. The length and proportions are perfect. They strongly grab and grip square or round stock. They are also ideal for grabbing rail road spikes (bought new, not scrounged, and high-carbon, in case you were wondering). The finish is excellent, and they feel nice in the hands. One thing that surprised me was the comfort of the round knobs on the ends of the reins. At first glance they just seemed to be decorative, but then I realized that the fat diameter really makes a difference in comfort when you are working rapidly and smacking things with a large hammer. All of my other tongs are vintage stuff from old farm and shop auctions and ends are rough finished. I didn't realize the effect that the extra impact had on my hands. The new ones eliminate that one extra source of wear and tear and allow me to work longer. Not that the old ones were unbearable, but that new ones give you that little extra energy. Maybe they help with balance, too? I don't know, but I like them. All in all a great investment. Also, the quality is high enough so you'd be proud to give them as a gift.

I got these because I wanted to have a firmer hold on my work than I was getting with my flat nosed tongs. These work great once the steel is worked to a knife-blank shape and size. I was able to work the finer shaping much easier than with my flat nosed tongs. The notches allow a firm hold both in line and perpendicular to the work. However, I still use my flat nosed tongs when I'm forging thicker steel or something that's not at least roughly knife-shaped, or if I need to grab something quickly out of the forge. I keep both pairs of tongs next to me while I'm working.

I'm really happy with these tongs, they're proving to be very strong and extremely helpful around the ol' anvil. The handle length is very comfortable for most work and overall, I'm really pleased with them. Yes, I would recommend these tongs.

I have only used these a couple times so far with horse shoes and 5/8 rebar, but they seem to do the trick. I cannot speak to durability, as they have not been put through the ringer quite yet. They are long enough to be able to get a fair amount of leverage to grasp items, but not at all unwieldy. Glad I picked them up instead of trying to make my own. I am new to the art...

Good quality steel tongs. No slipping or dropping. Grabs and holds round and square stock easily. Highly recommend!

I saw a bad review on these tongs and they must have just gotten a bad pair because the tongs I recieved are very well made and very sturdy there purpose is to handle stock while its hot and help control that stock while your beating it into whatever shape ,sword ,knife ,spoon ect. And these tongs do that well !!!
