Great portable Bi-directional scan tool
Inserted the tool, quick set up, downloaded the files for the car I was scanning and within a couple minutes was able to do a full system scan and use the bi-directional features. I was able to activate and control certain systems in the car from the app. I mainly just tested to make sure all my internal and external lights were operational. I could do this from outside the car so no having to ask a friend to check for brake light checks. It worked very well, easy to use. I am using it primarily on my 2016 Ford Explorer. No issues with device connection, the size is medium compared to the smaller scan-only tools. I’d say this is not a tool you leave inserted and drive around with like others. I ran a live system scan and the readings appeared accurate based on rpm, temp, etc. The unit found the existing codes I knew were already on my car quickly. The scanner appears to be decent quality with a thick plastic exterior. No issues with fitment to the OBD2. Overall very happy with this unit. I was searching for an affordable bi-directional tool like this and am glad to have found this one.

Solid bi-directional scan tool
This a review from a DIYer, not a professional mechanic. I own a popular $100 Bluetooth OBD2 code reader and a $500 hard wired tablet sized bi-directional scanner. Both tools have their strengths, but as most folks realize, bi-directional control is essential for proper diagnosis for many components in modern vehicles. Everything from blend doors, to instrument cluster gauge sweeps, to fuel pumps, to EVAP vent solenoids. You must have the ability to actuate/test these items. As a DIYer, having professional level screen size/graphing or programming functionality aren’t very important, as the Vident is not a daily use device for me. The Bluetooth feature, however, is practically necessary for bi-directional testing. Tough to perform many of the tests constrained to the drivers seat (using a corded scan tool).Let’s start with the unboxing. It took only a few minutes to download the Android app, install, create an account, register and activate the device. Not bad. It took another 45 minutes to update all of the software and firmware (Almost every manufacturer was shown as an available update). Hopefully, this will be much quicker in the future.First looks. The device pairs easily enough with my Motorola G7 phone. The display menus are laid out well. It would be nice to have a “Saved” or “Favorites” manufacturer’s category. OBD2 or OE scans are fairly straight forward, but see comments below. The full scan diagnostic report is simple, easy to read, and can be saved or emailed as a PDF.Pros: • $100 bi-directional tool with Bluetooth capability, amazing! • Auto-IDs both of my vehicles (2002 Montana, 2015 Impreza) • Special functions (actuation tests) are fairly robust, and display pertinent live data during the tests. • Lifetime software updates. This alone, is worth the purchase price.Cons: • No full system auto scan available for my 2002 Montana. You must choose the individual module to scan for DTCs. Contacted tech support via the bug reporting form in the app. They responded that this feature is currently not available for that particular vehicle. • Combined graph is limited to 4 PIDs. Understandable, since this runs on a small mobile phone screen. Selected individual graphs can be displayed in greater number. The screen can only display three at a time, but you can swipe up or down to scroll through them all. • Somewhat slower refresh/communication rate versus my hard wired scanner. This is very evident during graphing of live data (choppy lines), and a full system autoscan (up to 3 minutes to complete). • The progress of the autoscan is difficult to track. The screen cycles from one that shows the current module being scanned with a progress bar, to a screen with “-Please wait-” with no progress bar. Makes it difficult to know where you are in the full autoscan process. Tech support said this would be addressed in future software updates.Overall, I am very pleased with the features this product provides. It is a definite step up from the Bluetooth dongle I currently own. Solid 4 stars, maybe 4.5 considering the price and features, but I think there’s room for improvement. Tech support responds within 24 hours to complaint submissions, which is good to see, makes you think the company is focused on customer satisfaction. For someone who does weekend oil changes and repairs, the iSmartDiag510 has plenty of features and provides ample live data and testing to get you started toward a proper diagnosis.

Excellent Scanner in this price range
I am a DIY person with intermediate knowledge who enjoys diagnosing and repairing vehicles for myself, friends and family. I own a more expensive bi-directional scanner but wanted this lower cost unit to keep handy in my vehicle.Initially I had a problem pairing the scanner to Bluetooth on my iPhone. I contacted customer service via email and received a prompt response. I did not follow the instructions and tried to connect via the Bluetooth settings on the phone instead of pairing directly through the scanner App. After I realized my mistake everything went smoothly.I tested the scanner on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, a 2011 Tahoe and 2007 Chevy Corvette. The scanner was easy to use. It automatically detected the vehicle VIN and performed well. It was able to provide diagnostics and a report. I also performed several bi-directional tests for the vehicles and functioned successfully. It detected a few fault codes in one of my vehicles I had already known about from having scanned the vehicle with my more expensive scanner. I like that it is Bluetooth enabled and transmits without a cord. This is helpful when trying to diagnose from under the hood instead of being tied to a cord inside the vehicle. I also like that it comes with free current and future updates without any subscription fees. I don’t have any issues with this scanner and would recommend to anybody looking to test and perform the functions as described.
