Stunning underrated total gem
I came across the film by accident scrolling through YouTube and there was a clip of Beyonce singing and crying a Etta James classic. The music, the script, the performances are flawless. One of my favourite ever films, that got slated due to not including every historical fact exactly (such as there were two founders of Chess Records not one). I didn't know Howlin Wolf, Etta James, Muddy Waters. Chuck Berry and others were signed to the same label, around the same time, nor that Willie Dixon wrote most of their songs and many others besides, something like 200 hits. Incredible talents, portray incredible talents here and more people should see and love this this film, regardless of a few fact benders for dramatic purposes, the story is solid, sound and true.

Great film about Leonard Chess and his influential record company in Chicago.
A must for music enthusiasts. This film is about Leonard Chess and his Chicago record company Chess records which overcame barriers to record and promote many famous black musicians who were not known at the time: Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, Etta James, Chuck Berry and more. You must see this if you missed it first time around, as I did. Sad, funny and poignant in equal measure. The music is great. I purchased this through Amazon Prime. Well worth it.

Are you a Blues lover?
The music is just great. The story is great - although not necessarily factual (heavily embroidered for dramatic effect) and the acting is great too. Has given me a completely different take on Howling Wolf and Little Walter as people and musicians. Beyonce's portrayal of Etta James is truly amazing. Underpinning it all is Adrien Brody's fine performance as Leonard Chess. A couple of hours of entertaining escapism for all who love the Blues.
