VDIAGTOOL VD70 Lite Bidirectional OBD2 Scanner, Full System Diagnostic Tool

I bought this scan tool a few weeks ago to check transmission fluid temperatures, which is necessary when checking the transmission fluid levels after servicing on the newer Toyotas with “sealed” transmissions. What I love about the VD70 Lite is the compact size, simplicity, and robust build quality. I have an older scan tool that has a larger screen and more functions but has a carrying case the size of a small briefcase. For relatively simple diagnostic functions or reading live data (like transmission temperature) I wanted a more compact unit, and this fits the bill perfectly. For any trouble codes/DTCs you can select it, and it will open a browser to explain exactly what it is (Android 10.0 OS). The VD70 Lite takes roughly 35 seconds to boot up to full functionality. The screen is bright and clear with a responsive touchscreen. I own three Toyotas (2018 Sienna, 2014 Sequoia, and 2006 Matrix) and this diagnostic tool worked across all three. I’m not a professional mechanic but do my own maintenance (fluid changes, coolant, spark plugs, suspension, brake pads/rotors, etc) and have not had to use the bi-directional features available but have found the ability to read live data quite helpful. One note, I was hoping that this would be able to reset the sensed alcohol level in the ECU of my flex-fuel Sequoia but this feature is not available yet….hopefully I’ll get an update from VDiagtool in the future. Speaking of updates, make sure you connect to the internet and give it at least 30 minutes to download all the latest updates when you first get this. In short, I find myself using this a lot more than my older, larger/advanced diagnostic tool that has both wired/Bluetooth connections, as I prefer the size, speed, and simplicity of just plugging this directly into the OBD2 port. (This is a new model for 2024 and the Android OS and processing speed is noticeably faster than older devices) Pros: cost/value, perfect compact size (not too big, not too small), rugged build quality, built in kickstand, compact carry case, USB-C charging, long battery life, free updates for 3 years. Cons: Does not have all the advanced features for my Toyota Sequoia FFV, but then again this is the VD70 “Lite” version and flex fuel features are more niche. Almost forgot…I’m relatively new to VDiagtool as a brand but have been blown away by the customer service. I’ve e-mailed several questions to their tech support and I get a response in 24 hours or less.

I have used this tool for the last couple months. I used it both to troubleshoot and just to play around and see what I could do with it. It does what it is designed to do and it does it well. It has a good battery life, it has a rubberized case around it with grips to help you hang on to it. Definitely a plus compared to my old one that has a history of slipping out of my hands when it gets the least bit oily. The user interface on this one is a bit more friendly than some of the others I have used. The special function screen gives you the ability to use certain tools to maintain or troubleshoot your vehicle. Not all functions are available to all cars, but they are there to try. (See posted pic) There is also a screen to view and record live data to make observations during operation for those problems that only occur at certain times in the drive cycle. The auto-scan function will scan via OBDII and determine what systems your vehicle has and look for any stored or active faults in those modules. When it’s completed, you can get an DTC report that outlines all the codes found, from which you may reset or clear them. Updates are done over WiFi- I’ve actually done it via a hotspot from my phone. You may choose what makes of automobiles you want to update, as there are vehicles from around the world installed. It operates as a tablet, leaving the diagnostic app will bring you to the home screen. I have found you may go in and delete the makes/models you will never use to free memory for updates that you will in the future. Please only do this if you understand what you’re doing or you may damage your device. Overall, I am pleased with this device, a few uses will already pay for itself by saving you the outrageous costs to have a dealer hook up and do the same.

I purchased this scan tool since I started a mobile mechanic side business. I have had it a few weeks and it has exceeded my expectations…by a lot!!! The VD70 Lite is an impressive diagnostic tool that combines functionality and ease of use, making it a great addition to any car enthusiast’s toolkit or a professional mechanic’s arsenal. This feature allows the device to communicate back and forth with your vehicle’s onboard computer. You can use this function to perform active tests and command specific components to perform functions, such as turning the fuel pump on and off, cycling the A/C clutch, or even performing injector tests. This is particularly useful for more advanced troubleshooting and ensuring that components are functioning correctly. User-Friendly Interface The interface is intuitive and the display is clear and easy to read. Even if you’re not particularly tech-savvy, you’ll have no trouble navigating the menus and using the tool effectively. This makes it accessible to both beginners and experienced users alike. Multilingual Support It supports multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and French, which is a nice touch. This ensures that users from different regions can use the tool without any language barriers. Detailed Diagnostic Reports The VD70 Lite generates detailed diagnostic reports, which can be saved and printed. This is great for keeping a record of your vehicle’s condition over time and makes it easier to explain issues to a mechanic if needed. Performance and Build Quality The VD70 Lite is built to last. It has a durable design that can handle the rough and tumble of a busy garage. Its compact size makes it easy to store and handle, and the sturdy construction means it can stand up to regular use. Value for Money Given its range of features and capabilities, the VD70 Lite offers excellent value for money. It has many of the functionalities found in more expensive diagnostic tools, making it a cost-effective option. The multilingual support and detailed diagnostic reports add to its appeal. If you’re looking for a reliable and affordable diagnostic tool, the VD70 Lite is definitely worth considering.

It's actually a tablet, the scanner is only one of apps installed. Turned to be quite powerful app, so far I didn't find what it cannot do as compared to much more expensive "real" scanners. It really is biderectional, I actually do can control car from it. Tons of functions. More than I need for DIY mechanic. App took like 90 updates, so device seems to be up to date, even more than my expensive professional scanner. Few cons: app failed to initialize on first several tries, had to on/off tablet. It requires your email and password, account is convenient to store your data, but privacy is a concern as well. Scanners works easy and user friendly, tried on 3 cars, with one being a just a months from dealership and another is 28 year old. None of my cars showed any connectivity problems. It immediately picked up the intermittent misfire, but didn't point the source, looks like I still have to play with it trying to figure out it from graphs device record or may indeed end up going to Toyota dealership for their expensive diagnostic. Was able to reset airbags, and reset tpms. For smog test readiness, not sure yet if it includes more stringent CA requirements. I got it with discount , so for price it appears to be a very good buy.

it is a good even i had initially some issues to log in in order to update the software.

battery goes dead real quick and hard to read instruction

This is a great scanner that doesn’t break the bank, I wanted good hardware and good software, the VD70 Lite has a Quad Core Processor and 64GB of storage . Other scanners only offer 32GB of storage which limits your software updates and makes your scanner slow, with 64GB of storage you can do full updates without worrying about running out of space. This scanner is fast and best of all, you get free lifetime updates, excellent value. Plus, this scanner is bi-directional and also allows you to view live data, this helps a lot when you troubleshoot, no need to remove the parts and manually test them. Being a Bidirectional scanner allows you to test components directly from the scanner saving you time and effort. I recently got a check engine light on my older 2006 corolla, did a scan and got code P0456 (Emission control Evap Small leak) as usual I checked the usual suspects, all my evap hose lines, looking for any cracks or loose connections, all looked good, pushed some smoke to detect hard to find hose cracks, all was good. I assume that It would probably be my purge valve, but I was able to test the purge valve from the scanner using one of the many bi-directional functions it offers, that was quick and easy, I could hear the purge valve opening and closing, verified purge valve had no air leaks. After not finding any line leaks, I remember that this is a 2006 corolla with the original Gas Cap, after inspecting it I could see that the gas cap gasket was so old that it had multiple deep cracks that caused a bad seal on the gas tank. After replacing the Gas Cap seal and driving the car a few cycles, my check engine light cleared. I did not clear it myself to validate that it was the bad seal I fixed. You can’t go wrong with this scanner; you get professional diagnostics quality at home and remember free lifetime updates, highly recommended.

It stop working after a few months I don’t recommend

This tablet is seriously impressive especially at this price for an Android bidirectional tablet, it makes me regret buying mine at double the price. USB-C charging and a wired OBD2 connection make it way more reliable than those annoying Bluetooth dongles. The build quality feels better than the competition, and the kickstand is a great touch! Performance-wise, it’s shockingly fast—even compared to my other diagnostic tablet that costs twice as much. Clicking, scrolling, and loading all happen instantly, and communication with the car is very fast. An android bidirectional tablet with ** lifetime updates ** is an absolute game changer. That’s almost unheard for these kinds of tablets. My other one only gets three years of updates, and many people I know in the market seriously worry about this fact, so this is a BIG win. Software updates install way faster than my XTOOL. If the first update doesn’t work right away, just give it a day—it likely resolves itself after the initial setup due to timezone updates right after setup. I tested this with my Lexus GX460, Honda Element, Lincoln MKX and BMW 540i and honestly, all functions worked, and I honestly couldn't find any features this lacked versus my more expensive tablet. All actuation features were available just like mine, processing was fast, no lag or crashing. I've attached the actuation with my speedo for proof, this was a breeze to use. I should have bought VDIAGTool In the first place. For the price, this is hands down one of the best bidirectional diagnostic tablets you can buy. Highly recommend!!

Easy to set up and register. 3 year free updates. First day using it found trouble codes that were hidden. Maf sensor code. Replaced sensor and fixed. Easy clearing trouble codes. There was a Trouble code for a feature I didn’t know I had-Rear hands free sensor on my suv. Crawled underneath back bumper and seen broken sensor. Ordered new part and see if that fixes the issue. Fast scan tool. Lots of cool features and reads all modules present in my vehicle. Live data is a cool feature to see all button functions. Fast updates as well. Wide range of vehicles it can be used on. Will see what other functions I am able to use in the future. Good price as well. Paid for it self on the first day of use. Update- replaced rear hands free sensor and works now. Cleared code and all good.

I am genuinely impressed with this scan tool! Its small, compact size makes it incredibly convenient, especially compared to my larger scanner. This lightweight design is ideal for bringing along when I need to perform diagnostics on the go, whether I’m working in the garage or helping out a friend. The package includes everything you need right out of the box: an OBD plug and a charger cable. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was that it arrived with a significant amount of battery already charged, so I could use it right away without needing to charge it first. The carrying case is another great touch—it’s not just compact, but it also comes with secure foam padding inside to protect the scanner from any potential damage during transport. This level of protection ensures that the scanner remains safe and functional, even when it’s bouncing around in my tool bag. In terms of performance, this scanner really shines. It scans quickly and provides clear and concise information on any trouble codes that may arise. One feature I particularly appreciate is that when you click on a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code), it will even do a quick search for more information on the problem, saving me time and effort. This makes troubleshooting much easier, especially for someone who may not be as familiar with certain issues. Overall, I’m loving this lite version of the scanner! Its portability and ease of use make it a fantastic addition to my toolkit. Whether I’m at home or on the road, it’s a reliable companion that gets the job done without any hassle. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a reliable and compact diagnostic tool!

Will not scan a 2025 mazda cx50 gt to put brakes in to service mode or recognize the vin for that matter, it’s a shame since the tool costed so much and i really only use this scanner for brake jobs and diy stuff

Bidirectional scan tool works good but you are down loading everyday. But seems to work ok sometimes it needs rebooting. I will be buying a better scan tool this summer but only after testing it.
