Review: Decent quality capable metronome at a good price - IronTree Mechanical Metronome with Free Bag (Teak) The metronome comes well packaged with a single user card included with instructions on it's use. It is made out of wood effect plastic, I must admit it does look quite effective. You would never know it's plastic at a quick glance, it's only when you pick it up that you can tell it's not in fact wood. So with it sitting on a shelf in your music room it will look a whole lot more expensive than it actually is. Yes, real wood would have been nice but I'm sure it would have been far more expensive if that had been the case. There are three feet on the base which hold it high enough to allow the sound to escape from the vent underneath. The door on the front is held in place by a single peg on the bottom with a plastic slide lock on the top to hold it in place. Although I found the slide lock a bit loose so it was a little fiddly getting the door to close. I feel maybe a better lock could have been included? But, it does it's job and may just have been unique to the metronome that I received. The pendulum is metal with a gold coated plastic slider, when not in use the pendulum is held in place by pushing it behind a small peg at the top of the metronome. In use - There is a winder on the side to wind up the mechanism as this is a mechanical metronome so no batteries are needed. When turned you do not get the clicking sound of a traditional mechanical winder, there is just resistance. There is nothing in the instructions to tell you how many turns it will need to fully wind this up so you will have to use your own judgement on this - just be careful not to overwind!.. as soon a resistance is felt stop. I suggest also to not leave the metronome wound up, instead leave it running to unwind the spring before storing. Unwinding the spring is good practice and will ensure the spring gives maximum performance when used, it will also help the spring last much longer. The metronome gives a good solid tick when in use with the pendulum moving smoothly from side to side. You can adjust the beats per minute that you desire by sliding the gold coloured adjuster up or down the pendulum. This metronome is capable of adjusting between 40-208 bpm which will most probably be all you will ever need. There is also a chromed metal pull out lever which adds a bell ring to the sound of the pendulum - first notch a bell rings every second beat, pull it out another notch and it rings every third beat, out another notch and it rings every fourth beat & so on up to a bell ring at every sixth beat. Pushed in fully there is no bell ring at all, just the tick of the pendulum. The sound is not particularly loud but it is loud enough for most situations, there is no volume adjustment which is not surprising as this is after all a mechanical metronome. First impressions are that no, this is not the same as a professional top-end mechanical metronome but realisticly for the asking price it does what it's supposed to and it does it well. This would be ideal for a part time musician or student learning music who doesn't want to splash out on a more expensive model. To be honest, a professional musician would not even consider something in this price range anyway, although saying that, this does what it's suppose to do so why not? Overall, I found this to be a quite sturdy capable metronome. I am a part time musician who enjoys playing guitar and recording music, this will be used for a few minutes each day during my practice sessions just to help keep me on time. Practising a number without a band or backing track can cause you to speed up or slow down progressively as you play through the number so a metronome ticking in the background will help ensure you stay on the beat. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it plastic**
A: Plastic Mahogany Grain Veneer. If all wood, I'm afraid the price will double. :)

**Q: How does this metronome score 4.7/5.0 for volume control? It doesn't have volume control.**
A: You are correct, there is no volume control, though you can turn the ‘bell’ function off, that makes it quieter….. tenuous I know.

**Q: Does it have a bell?**
A: Yes, I can confirm it has a bell.

**Q: Any body have difficulty getting the cover off and on? Thanks**
A: Absolutely no problem experienced with clip at the top of the device. Just press down the clip and it opens without a problem.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good price/quality
*by T***I on 10 July 2020*

Let's start with the good stuff: -it looks amazing! Ominous, dark wood pyramid looming over your room. -Materials are good and given the price the, quality of packaging and gadgets included is positively surprising. -It sounds good. After years of playing with electronic metronomes I find the sound of simple bell-click with natural reverberation very pleasing. - Spring holds quite long. It enables you to play for 10-15 min straight, based on the tempo of your choice. Quite long on “largo”. -It works pretty accurate with higher tempos Cons: -I found the beats inconsistent every time I go below 60 bpm. At first thought I’m not keeping up, but after comparison with electronic one, I conclude my metronome wobbles quite significantly. (though more detailed test will follow) Overall, in this price range it’s a good piece of equipment.
